Damage Over Time Changes - Part 1

How will Earthquake work with these changes? Will the After Shock 50% more multiplier not apply to the base dmg for the dot?

I wonder if you thought it through. This is exactly what is needed. It might take a patch or 2 to get every item and change the interactions with DoT's but it's exactly how it should be.

They SAID exactly that, it WILL not affect players that do not HEAVILY invest into AoE!
Look at almost all skills baseline AoE without any invest into AoE they are TRASH, and Skills that got no love (AoE per level) they are COMPLETELY GUTTED

this doesnt contradict what I said. your graph on the left has MORE benefit after than before with a low aoe increase before f(g)=f(r) @ x=6. this contradicts, however, GGG's statement. nowhere have they said that new AOE people who dont invest much aoe will have MORE benefit.

according to graph on the left, GGG 'promised' doubled effective AoE if investment of increases is low enough... @x=3 your f(r) is TWICE that of f(g) assuming linear uniform scale. nowhere did they say that at low increase levels you'd get twice aoe. stop this madness. f(r) from their promises would always be strictly lower than f(g). that graph is trash, sorry bro.

Nope, they especially mentioned, how people went hard out of their pathing with their builds only to grab all AoE nodes.
This was one of the reasons why they wanted to change the whole AoE mechanic. They promised, that there will be no "CUT" for people who did not heavily invest into it. Now the gem is shit and the nodes are almost worthless. Is this how you interpret those interviews? Did you really understood it like that, what is has become? he made a FALSE promise, to create hype and shut peoples mouth.

It seems that GGG is losing control of important aspects of PoE.

Congratz, melee DoT based RIP. By extension of these changes you can forget about leech. Could you try to nerf melee even more? I think it hasn't been bullied to level of base attack yet.

So basically you're changing a mechanic that you found complicated and difficult for those who didn't know it and replacing it with a system that is far more complicated. Interesting...

Anyway, in the great GGG-constant-beta tradition I expect all my characters to be broken by 3.0 regardless of whether they are meta builds or not.

Summary for people that didn't understand: Double dipping is gone,it's not a nerf but they removed it completely so builds that focused on double dipping will lose about 70-80% of the dot damage.
Also it's a buff for all the other dot builds that didn't care about double dipping(double the scale and buff dot nodes on tree and a new keystone).
Also RF/Scorching ray can use 1 more multiplier support gem hype.

This is what I call "balance" thanks GGG.
