Performance Improvements

The post doesn't really address the severe performance drops caused by the crazy amount of particle effects we get in the game, especially while in a party. Is there any chance that this problem will ever be resolved?

" This wouldn't solve his problem though, it's all about the particle effects. Reduced texture quality only means lower VRAM and memory bandwith usage. Only useful for very old rigs. GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

It all started a few months ago ...

These improvements can't come soon enough. My game has been crashing constantly, five times alone last night which makes Master Rotations annoying to not only me but my fellow party members. It's been sullying what has otherwise been a very good league.
... and crashed again already, on my own fricking Zana mission. Next week can't come soon enough! Last edited by Aldora_the_Summoner on Apr 6, 2016, 4:53:09 AM

Thank you for your communication and transparency! I would have loved to learn something about multi-threading in PoE (Does it even exist?), and what kind of systems you use to run/troubleshoot/develop PoE.
I recently switched from a multicore AMD to a fast, cheap Intel dual core (G3258 @4.7ghz) and my performance went through the roof, all freezing gone. Something needs to be done about that, too. Perception is reality. Last edited by widardd on Apr 6, 2016, 4:22:48 AM

Hey Chris,
Thanks for giving us a little peek at the inner working of PoE. I'm a developer myself, C# business applications during the day, and c++ directx stuff in my free time. I would highly recommend skipping the upgrade to DX11 and go straight to DX12. The API for DX12 is a massive change compared to the change from DX9 to DX11 so I can understand that you may not want to make too many changes to the rendering engine at this point, but I think the extra effort if you are already committing to a DX upgrade will be well worth it. You can actually run DX12 in "DX11 mode" which might be a middle ground which would save you time in the future if you did then want to upgrade to DX12 at some point further down the line. Looking forward to more performance improvements :-) Thanks to you and everyone at GGG for all of your awesome work. Keep it up! | |
" I read "low Texture" and "Lower Graphics" then switched off. I too have fps issues (i7 2600k @ 3.4Ghz, 8Gb RAM, GTX 970, Win 10) and put my issues down to POE only using 1 core (100% usage while the rest sit at 40-50%)and my GPU may see 70% when there's lots going on :( |
