GhazzyTV - Essence Drain & Contagion (or Bane/Soulrend) Trickster [SC/HC/Uber Elder/Shaper]

Hi guys,

I'm currently playing with this guide as my first character in this game so there are a lot of things I'm not aware of. I've got lucky and dropped a card "the fiend" so I currently have 5ex. Should I buy an Indigon 40% ED Dmg? I've seen one around 4ex

The thing is, I'm still using the Goldrim from the start +40% ele res. I'm afraid I'll have difficulty to have a descent global resistance if I switch. I currently have, in order: 80% 94% 81% 2%.

Maybe I missed something, here is the gear I'm using:
Head: Goldrim
Torso: Tabula Rasa +1 skill
Weapon: BotC
Shield: Rathpith
Boots: Voidwalker
Belt: Bisco leach
Gloves: Allelopathy
Amulet: Impresence chaos
Rings: Rare resi rings with life and mana

Thanks in advance!
If you switch to Indigon version the 40% inc damage from helm means little, don't waste your money. Indigon gives so much bonus damage, you don't even get any inc damage from the tree as part of that build.
Just get a good Indigon without an enchant and you will also need to get Fevered Mind unique jewels (2x) that cost 1ex each.

Hey guys,

Quick note about Indigon helmet:
It's vastly better for ED/Contagion builds in general, it should be somewhat affordable in softcore leagues but in hardcore it's stupidly expensive. This guide is meant to serve as a league starter and/or budget approach to get currency going. Which is also why I'm not promoting the use of things like Impresence amulet.

A decent rare helmet in BHC costs like 20c, Indigon costs 16 ex. Not sure how the softcore market looks but I would feel rather comfortable saying that it doesn't qualify as a budget approach >.<

As @Torin wrote, if you can afford an Indigon I think you should it's stupidly good for this build but in BHC it's "fckmeinthea$$Expensive".

Without shield you gain more damage but lose 100+ life, 60+ mana, mana regen and some resists. If you equip rare chest instead of the shield, you are still one item short.

Ok so current setup:
BotC
93% chaos damage
10% AOE
40% chaos duration

Shield
74% spell damage
87 life
61 mana
63 resists

Tabula +1
+1 gems

And the 2 handed setup:
Staff
+1 gems/+2 chaos gems
65% spell damage
10% cast speed
40% mana regen

Rare Chest
120 life
80 mana
110 resists

So what am I missing here as far as stats go? The +3 to chaos gems should outweigh the drop in % damage, and I actually end up with more life/mana/resists.

I take your point that going from shield charge to another movement skill will be slightly slower map speed, but you should make up for it by clearing bosses more quickly and safely. Especially since we're talking about t12+ maps, guardians, etc.

Has anyone actually done the 2 handed version? What chest piece and movement skill setup did you use?

Basically, run and use Flame Dash when needed.
Chest; Cherrubim gives you more damage or you could run w/e gives you better defence, like CoD or other items :)

you are right cwdt doesn't work with vaal skills. Its there just because there is a slot and inc duration makes the shocked ground last longer.

Hi

If you're using a Cloak of Defiance and 3x Grand Spectrum, is it worth it to go through MoM for Inspiration?

If using a damage increasing sixth link (like Empower, Poison, or Decay), do you find value in speccing 5 points to get Piercing Shots on the right hand side of the tree? Or is it perhaps worth wearing Voidwalkers?
It feels much worse to play without any pierce I've noticed..

Can you say a bit more about possible endgame choices for BSC?
Are there any other honorable mentions?

Ghazzy's guide covers pretty much everything there is on budget ED, and since he explicitly said he does not want to focus on more expensive gear, I guess I can jump in and highlight some more endgame focused versions of the build:

If you really want to push pure ED to the maximum, Indigon is obviously the way to go at the moment. Rhaegar_G made a great guide showcasing how to really take ED to the next level:
https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2113508

If ED spam and higher budget isn't for you, then I have a guide that focuses on taking the league starter ED character (basically the same character as you'd get following this guide) a bit further. My character focuses a bit more on mitigation and Blight damage to be able to deal with higher tier content more effectively:
https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1717015

If you want to take the Low Life route, djnat has a scion guide that can be played as a Trickster without too many changes to the passive tree. His character is also a hybrid version with both ED and Blight like mine:
https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1627803

Read up on these guides. If you still have questions, I am sure any of the guide authors are more than happy to help our with whatever approach you might choose.

Those 2 are the top choices tbh, outside of that we are talking about low life vs life/mom, corrupted +1 (+2 total) skin of the loyal etc etc

Hey,

Yes, it's worth it as you'll need a lot of mana to sustain the eHP granted by 40% MoM.

I personally don't feel the need for the piercing as we have Blight to fix those situations where Pierce would be useful, but again, not everyone enjoys that playstyle so getting pierce is ultimately a matter of personal taste.

im using this build for a week and i must say that its great, especially for HC.I don't take damage from low-tier map monsters (1-10T), Uberlab is extremely easy to run.Im currently 89 lvl and now i want to defeat Atziri and Yellow Elder.
I have one question - should i be scared of poison and bleed on high-tier maps? Can i survive Atziri's flameblast with 6k hp and 2k mana?Is CoD the best item for endgame?Does it really boost our survivability or its ok to play with rare 6l armour?

What about Despair instead of enfeeble?

CoD significantly increases your defence, but I generally use any chest piece with +1 lvl of gems for more damage.

Keep in mind you gota check your MoM calculator (available in the guide unless you calculate it manually) to maintain proper unreserved mana for the % MoM effect that you have (30% without CoD, 40% with CoD)!

Glad you're enjoying the build!
