HLD Tournaments ~ On hold for now !

Imo worst part of the PvP meta has been around for a while now. It's not that its dominated by ranged anti melee builds. It's the fact cwdt TC+AB + other curses and AA are flowchart on damn near everyone now a days. Matches are played in slow motion making maneuvering properly a chore. It's the same reason in Diablo2 Doom and Holy Freeze aura were soft banned in most circles because playing with such heavy slow debuffs = shit PvP. Next to that is the obvious damage output achieved by crit but that's still less stupid then layers ontop of layer ontop of layer of automatic debuffs flying from peoples ass cracks on hit.


Ice, Google wasn't good on melee. He was fodder to anything that stopped his "hold button..run into player repeatedly til I win" mentality. Bear traps > him, EA wall spray > him, Frost walls > him, anything that required him to shift gears from face smashing into you to actually moving intelligently >>>> him so hard. As a matter of fact his most success was found early on when people couldn't remove knockback status and when you could multistrike with cyclone. He'd literally just namelock you and hold attack causing horrific desynch/teleportation. After they fixed much of that stuff and bettered the server performance a little he got his ass beat free. I think you'd have less success on your EA'r if you were to re-gear it then you think.

I also think EA today when weighed against spark/la/0 coefficient crit skills looks pretty fair. Id rather a guy sit near a wall spraying avoidable damage if I just don't go near it. While hes at said wall, I can EA him back for the same effect or use another ranged skill to force him to move + stop attacking. Then literally die full screen away/melee range/anywhere from just 1-2 successful hits. Even if you're being bombarded by EA explosions by someone heavily invested in AoE you're simply getting chipped away and not instantly flat lined.

I know it won't be as superior as it was back in 1.3, I also know I should switch from a traditionnal tree to a full life/regen/Aoe one and build my damage entirely with Jewels.

I know Talismans are a soft counter to this build and yet, how many people would be able to build a character with 100% win rate against EA, answers is really few. Only Lapiz and Rup managed to score kills against Lib. I won't say my character would be as good but if I used all my current wealth to make it (and by that I mean mostly buying a legacy kaom as everything else is quite cheap), it would be pretty damn close wich mean it would dominate 90% of everyone else.

Do I want to do that, no. I like a "fair" fight an the question/answer game that is pvp. I like finding my weakness and trying to build over there. For example right now the biggest weakness of my Mjolner build is chaos resist and I have a few ways to work on those. I like this mindset, with EA there is nothing like that. You can be a monster tank with full overcapped resists while dealing tons of unavoidable damages from afar supported by EE that you cant dispell. It only drawback his the arena setup and even that can be countered with Frost Wall. I have no fun playing this and even less playing against.
Sparks/LA/Crit/whatever. They are usually pretty squishy because they have to invest ressources to build their damages and deliver them (either on tree and gear). That made them more "balanced" in my eyes (but yes I agree some things need to be fixed)

As for google, I never said he was good. It just infuriated him a lot that his 1000/2000$ build (yes we are talking real money here as we know he never farmed a single day in his life) got stomped by a 10ex one (wich is probably 10 or 12$) so he switched over it. That's a good example of how retarded that build was.

But enought of this, good to everyone participating in this tournament. It will be flooded by crit templars in 10 days anyway, that's gonna be hilarious to watch.

Oh I know how much he theoretically spent. I watched him show up with a new mirror or 2 every day, trading them and re-working his character build(s).

Lib has a character worth 100s-1000 exalts. He's simply whoring every single thing he can abuse at once. I.e cwdt flame dashes/ea/etc.. nothing he does is "him" being good ha. 10Ex EA build will get stomped, you can run new Kaom's saving yourself 200ex right off the bat and you'd do fine if you're smart but still I think you'd see after you take your EA'r up against the other "skill-less skills" now a days you'd feel pretty good about your "fairness".


+1 to Ascendancy and PvP's future, it's totally going downhill from here.

Gotta keep pvping after all if we want stuff to change !

Other than EA and Spark being problematic theres nothing that breaks the meta so much.

When i remember RF EK crit 1 shots and flicker dagger 1 shots, righteous fire 0.5 second 1 shot degen. Let's not forget and how strong shotgun spells were too. Spark was even more OP before when you could shotgun wit it... but the stackability part of the skill and duration was not yet discovered until now.

Could talk about more stuff but we discussed about these in other threads not so long ago anyways.

GGG only needs to tweak the volume button down on some things and adjust mechanics to the upcoming ascendancy meta.

We'll have better tournaments in the future no worries :)

I would have loved to start these earlier in the metas but it is what it is !

i would like to participate but last one was set to time that was not most suitable to EU players. are there any plans to run the tournament on a sunday and something like 3PM US, 9PM EU?

It's not possible for me to play during the day, also 5pm EST is not that bad as it turns out to be 11pm for eu players. Considering most are mature i'm certain that EU players can play at this time ?

I have an irl as well and i cannot put poe in priority so that's why i set the tournaments during the night, i assume others have families as well and stuff so...

If i put the tournament at 3PM US players wont be able to eat at 4h like usual, most of us have stuff to do at that time, at 5h we are done eating and everything so i feel it's perfect. What do you do at 11pm anyways, you dont go to sleep right :P ?

Yeah not much interest so far, i have the regret to say that i cant continue organizing these if no one wants to play in them...

And soon i will be starting to work intensively all summer so we wont see as many tournaments during that time...

I understand the gear barrier, i understand the frustration behind broken builds, i understand the different timezones, but we all have to put efforts into playing if we want stuff to change and thrive...

Nothing is perfect for everyone, it's a lot of work to write/adjust/organize these that i cant just keep going on if i cant even pile up 10 players for a tournament.

It's better to participate in the tournaments and appear into videos so GGG can see them than standing in town or going in sarn arena from time to time. No one sees what's going on in sarn arena anyways its baby playground.
