Of course you are dying - you aren't using out main survivability source - Dual curse.
Even if using 1 curse, Warlord mark is better for survivability than Assasin mark, becuase warlord mark gives u HP & mana PER HIT, and Assasin mark gives you PER KILL.

I suggest making your ice Nova 4 Links, and use your chest for the Lightning warp + Dual curse + less durartion.
Take off either Cold 2 Fire or Added cold damage, check what gives you more damage and remove the other one.
Once you can use the PoH you showed me, move the Ice Nova links to the staff as 5L.

You'll need to buy some regrets.

As for your gear:

Replace the Rigwarld's crest ring with another ring with at least 60 life. Yes, we don't need this ring, better with dexterity so you can remove at least one +30 dex node from tree.
Helmet - Change for a rare one with Evasion or Evasion+ES, with 80+ life and 2-3 resistences.
Boots - Well you decided not to take the +1 curse from the tree for now. I suggest that you get the +1 curse from tree before level 80 and use Atziri step instead of Windscream.

I have been wondering if you ever considered or tested EB, reserving your entire mana pool and using MoM as your form of defense. Not sure if it could work as I don't know how to regen energy shield during a fight unless you were to make leach apply to ES but that seems to negate a normally good defense otherwise.

Hey mate.
We aren't ES based, and we are 'spammable' type of build. ES cannot recharge in any other way besides 'resting' for a bit.

Using EB when you don't have much ES and when you most of the time spam either L.Warp or Ice Nova will prevent you from farming smoothly, and will probably cause you to die often.

As for your gear:

Helmet - way too low life. Aim for 80+ life Evasion helmet.
Gloves - Aim for 80+ life gloves.
Blet - Get Heavy/Leather belt with 80+ (preferebly 90+) life.
Swap your Ruby ring to Diamond ring for more crit chance.
Get an amulet with Crit chance and/or crit multiplier and/or Spell Damage. (priority: Crit multi, Crit chance, Spell damage).
Your Diamond ring has fairly low life aswell. Even a crafted life can reach over 40. Also, use some Blessed Orbs to make it 28-30% crit chance.

Atziri Steps - Aim for 16% block and 72+ life.

I was looking at some debates on other (older) topics about PoH, and there seemed to be a consensus that a +3 gem lvl staff would be much more potent. Assuming mana issues can be handled, what is the advice for this template? Is PoH the best? Or is a good roll (+3, +crit%, +crit mult, +cast speed) staff better? It superboosts the empower and the nova.

+3 GG staff is more DPS but you gotta invest about 8-10 mana nodes to get what PoH give you cancelling out DPS gains unless it's a mirror. Don't fight the system. It's cheap and is BiS for about 120 other builds too. Even Ghazi was using PoH on his final SRS build instead of +3 (and PoH's 160% spell dam does nothing for SRS)

First thing you have to do is fix your resistences.
use the website: poe.trade

to search for armor pieces with life + 2 or 3 resistences.

Important: always be in merciless town to see your resistences. dont be in your hideout or in lower difficulty area.

so i have fixed my resists, reseted my gems and made them +20 quality, i did ele reflect maps easly, no regen etc, did t11-13 maps with closed eyes. Raped atziri easly.
But still im running in tabula, wich makes me paper, and stops me from reaching lvl 100, since i die alot. my question is, can this build be MF capable? its way to strong for the current content, whole screen dies in less then a second with marks up without even using CE, but the problem is, no mf-quantity boost. As for uber atziri i dont even dare to try with my current eq, thats why im asking if this char is MF capable to gear up for top t15 maps - uber atziri.

I myself also have MF gear, but I can't see how you can run tiers 10+ smoothly with MF gear as melee Ice Nova witch.

You'll die quite often, unless you'll figure out something I didn't.

The lack of resistence and low life makes it hard to survive decent-hard maps.

Get a Carcass Jack. The whole problem with the CI VErsion is range. You can't get to monsters before they dial in on you. Tabula Rasa is same situation. Back when I started this build in 1.2 I used a 40% Lightning coil (same problem) but I didnt know any better and made the switch to Carcass Jack abot halfway through Rampage and it actually gave me MORE defense too just the way it plays out. Freezing and hitting nearly whole screen removing lots of danger from field of play. Leeching from more opportunities. etc. Range and DPS is key to survival along with the normal things like max resitists and fat life.

I wouldn't dream of playing MF with a melee build. MagicalCrime did, but low maps.
