Map drops - assessment of 2.0.0, and changes coming in 2.0.2

Don't play against your userbase.
Hf :)
I don't know about everybody else, but I don't run many maps above level 73 because I have very few of them :P.
GGG you should carefully to do on this. improve and inflation is not always good things.
i think zana give us few more level maps would be better.

im really concern to POE future like that everyone can be hit level 100 in only one month like Etup,Havoc. take the risk spending much currencies thats the why they are really good on.

atleast this league has 2 more months.
im enjoing without getting EXP currently.buy some unique maps then running with friends. fun to play and fun to die (died lvl 88 few days ago).

Yeah, because everyone would be mapping 18h/day for 3-4 weeks if map drops existed.
I can run any mod that I have seen so far in maps up to 77.
I'm hoarding 75+ maps because I know that if I run them, nothing will drop and I will just end up disappointed. They are more valuable as an item rather than actually running them because they are extremely unrewarding and the possibility of getting even a sustain from them is rather low, let alone an upgrade.
The only thing that would make me actually run these maps is if I believe that they will pay off in value on average, like getting the same level map or higher from them.
I'm not going to just run one map and make decisions on it, but if I run 20 x +90 iiq maps and I get 10 of the same level and 2 upgrades, that's not sustainable or rewarding, that's a negative trend that is trying to push me to the previous map level without me being able to do anything about it.

Please also amend the map drop level.

I run LV.78 map and still drop LV.68 map.

Could the drop at 74 be partially attributed to most of those bosses being hard as shit, and skipped by most builds, especially in HC?

I want to further discuss this and the overall map design of this bracket.

The wiki rates maps as following:

Layout ratings:

A: The map has a consistent layout that can be reliably fully cleared with no backtracking.
B: The map has an open layout with few obstacles, or has only short and well-connected side paths.
C: The map has an open layout with many obstacles, or has long side paths that require backtracking.

Boss ratings:

5: High and consistent damage output that is difficult to reliably avoid; skipped by many players.
4: High and consistent damage output that can be avoided reasonably well but still very dangerous.
3: Occasionally high damage output that can be avoided reasonably well.
2: Moderate damage output that can be easily kited and/or reasonably mitigated by most builds.
1: Trivial for most builds.

Let's list the 74 maps and have a look at their layout and bosses as rated by the wiki:

Torture Chamber: C 4
Mine: C 3
Wastepool: C 3
Labyrinth: C 4
Jungle Valley: A 5

So the wiki concludes that every map but Jungle Valley is tedious to run. Too bad that Jungle Valley is rather small and has an extremely dangerous boss. I personally always disliked the old 72 maps that are now 74 for those exact reasons, but now the problem got worse because +2 drops became very rare and thus running one level lower in the hopes to skip that bracket isn't longer an option.

The statistics bear this out, and vividly show us there is a problem. There is a serious bump of maps being run at level 73, more than at level 72, and then a solid dive at level 74. This is partially due to level 74 being where the harder mods kick in.

I think there is also something else you have not taken into account (or at least have not mentioned in the post)

lvl 74 map group in my opinion offers the least fun map pool. All the maps except Jungle Valley have "annoying" tilesets that include narrow paths, lots of dead ends, obstacles, backtracking, etc.. Theres also not enough room for big packs to spawn.. All this together results in much lower kill/time ratio than the average map has and also can lead to players frustration

Before 2.0 I was always skipping this group (except the Jungle Valley), which is now harder because ordinary monsters can no longer drop +2 maps.

I was hoping that with 2.0 map revamp some of the worst endgame map tilesets would be reworked or replaced. Maps based on Cavern of Wrath/submerged passage and Hedge maze tilesets are imo kings of annoyance.. Or is there anybody who considers ie Mine map fun? lmk pls ;) .. (there are actually three endgame maps based on this tileset)

thanks for reading

Mine map fun

Not anymore since rakango has been added to the game.
Those monsters in map with lot of obstacles are a pain for many build.
Hf :)
I'm really hoping that these changes include restricting the level of maps bosses can drop, so not only can they drop a +2, but can never drop lower than -1. It's so disheartening going into a 75 map, killing the boss, and the only map in the entire zone drops from boss and is a goddam 68. That should never happen, but it's happened in my experience repeatedly. I'm sitting at 82 because every time I run a high IIQ/IIR 74/75 map I get no map upgrades, just more lower tier garbage maps.
I hope that when the world comes to an end I can breathe a sigh of relief; because there will be so much to look forward to.
