Lvl 10 and lvl 12 Ice Nova Gems on a 48 Witch.
Each gem socketed into its own 3 socket piece of gear My understanding is that we could stack the mods to these gems if we had more than 1 of the skill. This does not appear to be the case. It gives me two skills (the same skill) to choose from, both with vastly different dmg based on the mods in each socket. Take a look at TerrisThule and see what I have socketed. It was clear they are not stacking when I swapped around the crit multiplier. | |
" Pretty sure that's outdated functionality. They changed it. This way you can hvae different copies of the same spell for different functions. E.g. Fireball Multiprojectiles for crowds, and Fireball+dmg supports for boss killing. Character archive: view-thread/963707

Yes, that used to be the way it worked, now each socket group gives a different instance of the skill, so you can have two differently supported versions.

Is there the possibility to make it an option, to choose between linking them together or not?

Dont think thats a good idea myself.. Skills would be hard to balance if you could get all support gems onto the one skill..
About the skill itself.. i always found the nova animations to be a bit slow, but that goes for more skills in this game. It breaks the flow of combat, and when playing hardcore standing nearby for a nova and the skill taking half a second is kind of scary at times I dont know how much castspeed would be needed to get a decent cast animation out of it though | |

" I have 43% and it's quite fast. Though i don't use it as a kill spell, just defensively (supported by Knockback) on a summoner. Taking some stuff off, even at 22% it's not too shabby, tho a little slow for my liking. Looks like 30% is about the minimum i'd suggest. Character archive: view-thread/963707

Bundled with knockback, it can be a nice skill. But the only time it turned out to be of good use was in the forest levels with the 90000 monkeys, as they will swarm you. They die after a couple of hits from it, it's a fairly spammable skill so it worked fine.
