Glacial Hammer
I think Glacial Hammer might feel a lot better if the freeze shatter effect behaved more like culling strike, shattering the enemy if you hit them, they freeze, and you put them to < 1/3 life. To me this is really the cool part about this skill, but it's actually not super useful. Basic mobs just die too quickly. Rare mobs tend to be hard to freeze for very long, and Uniques can't be shattered already. It's probably most useful for magic monsters.

Im pretty sure, that it doesnt work but I just wanted to ask: Glacial Hammer Quality says
Per 1% Quality +1% increased Freeze Duration +2% increased Chill Duration when I take The Three Dragons, does it apply to Ignite Duration or not? | |
"No. It's Freeze duration and Chill Duration, they apply to any freeze and to chill you cause with the skill - which in this case would require lightning damage to cause a freeze (Three Dragons prevents causing Chill at all). Your cold damage causes ignites, which would be affected by modifiers to ignite duration. | |
Ok so at level 20, Glacial hammer has about a 26% chance to freeze. If you take the 5% freeze chance nodes, does that add to glacial hammer's freeze chance, for example, if I take two, does the freeze chance become 36%, or is that calculated after GH's freeze chance, leaving the next chance to freeze after a failed GH freeze at just 10%.

Really cool skill- pun intended- but a big draw back is that its single target and not AOE. Freezing the screen is all fine and dandy, but this is probably more of a utility crowd control spell than anything else.

Glacial Hammer is now useless, because it's outclassed by Ice Crash on all fronts. Almost equal weapon damage, a free AoE, just generally better DPS than Glacial and it doesn't need gems like Melee Splash to perform.
Do something for Glacial Hammer or nerf Ice Crash. | |
I agree. I feel like instead of adding a whole new skill (while cool) they could have reworked or added on to Glacial Hammer. Something definitely needs to be done with the skill. Maybe giving it small ice explosions when it hits (or kills an enemy). Something to make it at least an option when compared to Ice Crash.

well.. while GH is pretty terrible for packs (it wasnt in 1.3 - the ele prolif radius change killed my pretty damn fast GH build) it is probably THE BEST skill for bosses
25% freeze (35-40% in reality with passives + some more with jewels) with serious hits (do NOT use multistrike!) means pretty much all rares are perma frozen and map bosses share the similar fate shatter-on-low-life also makes most rare fights last seconds if not less Ice Crash is terribad for single target, puts user at risk (slow attack speed) and has no inherent freeze chance. While it might be good for packs the single target is good only when absolutely overgeared | |

This is from a lvl92 crit/HegemonyStaff user. GH however will offer more DPS than Ice Crash against single targets, and that's what it should be used for.
