Glacial Hammer
I like the animation, damage is OK, utility is good in 1v1 situations, but...
A lot of people say that this skill lacks AoE. I have an idea how to make this skill better. Improve shatter mechanics. When you kill an enemy with this skill procing shattering, the enemy will blow into ice pieces chilling/freezing or maybe even damaging (! NO !) monsters around. We dont need another ICE EDITION "infernal blow". But freezing/chilling would be great. Ice spells/skills are about utility. Glacial hammer with AoE utility? Yes please! There have to be single target skills. Why everyone wants aoe on every single target skills ? seriously...

Because there's little use for numerous single-target attacks in a game of this style. It's impressive the amount GGG has at the moment with individual uses and unique feel... for the most part.
A niche for Glacial: It's restricted to clubby weps, which have few attacks already... and few, slightly gimpy AoE attacks. I can't think of anything interesting for Glacial to make it a different kind of AoE though. As for making it a single-target freeze, that seems really off compared to all the multi-target cold spells. Maybe... have the attack chain to another target if the person hit is chilled/frozen? Probably too much with Ice Nova or Cold Snap. |

It seems limited in terms of usefulness but I feel it almost redeems itself on style points alone. Great looking skill, minimal functionality.

Beautiful to tinker with on a tri-element tanking templar (melee Glacial, Tempest blocks, molten damage return). Very fun.

I love glacial hammer. It hits like a truck and has a neat effect. It would be great if there was a support gem that could give it aoe powers of some variety.

I'm at the point where I'm using Glacial Hammer or Heavy Strike once I'm into melee range (after Shield Charge to get there) on a 10th level Templar with a scepter. I find that HS consistently has better dps, costs less mana, and gets the job done better. If the mob survives either attack, I can at least Shield Charge them again for another go... and if they got knocked back it makes it all the better.
I'm hoping that when the elemental passives start to kick in, it will be more viable to use GH, although I'll probably switch to Infernal Strike instead at that point (with Lava Lash passive). I would submit that if GH had some kind of affect on close mobs while using it (like slow, with very low damage), I think it would be a great skill... | |
aRPGs are all about crowd control. Right now melee has few viable AoE options which really hinders the ability to make effective/creative melee characters in my opinion. I'd say glacial hammer is the PERFECT candidate for AoE, the radius doesn't need to be huge but if its got some radius we can at least enhance it with gems.
I was started to gear up to make a glacial hammer char just to do something different but after learning that it had zero AoE the build is effectively gimped out the gate. Please add more AoE skills to the melee portfolio so we can actually have some fun swinging large metal objects! |
