" Can you post your tree and flasks also? Instructions on how to link your tree (just in case) and gear are provided in this post. Last edited by hankinsohl#1231 on Jan 8, 2016, 8:28:06 AM

" I followed the tree from the OP...hopefully not outdated but here goes with flasks gear and tree Jewels being used so far are as follow: Poacher's aim unique (pierce + proj damage) 1 +chaos + area damage jewel (IAS to wand wasted) 1 +chaos + area +reduced mana cost of spells thats it for now...working on 2 more within next 5 levels or so. https://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAwIAAO4B0QMeBS0FtQzyDkgRLxNtFAkUdRUgFr8Y2xm0Go0byB9BI_YmiCaVKk0qWyzpLYMuIzB8NZI2PTfUPs8_J0MxQzZHfkrITZJRR1LsVUtaGlsmW69h4mJaYqxlTWyMbqp07XXLdoJ59n11f_uE2YazjX2Nfo2_kAqTmZ2qoSKiQKOKpcuv67TFtNG1SLXytzC3trueu-O9Nr3mvqfC7MMzxKLIDMu9037UI9i92sHdDd-Y44Tmgepi62PtP-4O73r0-Paj_o_-ug== Last edited by Kezz123#5086 on Jan 8, 2016, 9:23:56 AM

Hi Kezz:
I haven't played CA this league so my advice won't be as good as Chrono's or Serleths... But, here's my take. Your tree and gear looks OK to me. Your flasks could be improved a lot. You'll want at least 2 Seething Hallowed Flasks of Staunching (I usually run 3) - Seething is really great as you'll instantly heal through most damage. Check the opening post where Serleth lists his gear and just copy his flasks. Don't try to roll Seething of Staunching - you'll just burn through a ton of alts. Instead, buy them via poe.trade and then dump baubles onto them to get 20 quality. I don't know what level maps you're trying to run... but, if you feel that you're taking too much damage, focus on evasion (a higher evasion chest piece will help quite a bit) and life (more life nodes from trees). Ultimately, though, it may be play style. As a CA ranger, your main defenses are 1) avoiding damage; 2) evasion and 3) life. You cannot expect to facetank anything at all - instead, stay at range, stay constantly in motion and focus on avoiding damage. Constant motion - e.g., circling around enemies is incredibly helpful. Monsters will target where you were, not where you are. By staying in motion - circle bosses - you'll avoid a ton of damage. In terms of DPS, everything looks basically OK in terms of gear/tree to me. Perhaps, you're not keeping frenzy charges up. Frenzy charges are a huge boost to damage. Either make sure that blood rage is going (I don't like blood rage, personally though Serleth does) - or that you're keeping frenzy charges up via the Frenzy skill. For bosses, make sure to use the Frenzy skill (for frenzy charges); make sure to use your Wither Totem (a small improvement to your totem links is to incorporate Increased Duration) once you can afford to do so; and toss a Vaal Lighting Trap when possible (keep in mind that certain boss skills can destroy your traps, so, if possible, throw the trap right at the boss so it immediately explodes, and save up the trap charges - don't throw all three traps at once, rather, throw one, wait till it expires, and then throw another, etc.) Use of Blink Arrow can help too - mobs will often focus on your blink clone instead of you, thus providing another mechanism for damage avoidance. Finally, keep in mind that you're running a level 20 CA in a 5-link. Your damage will go up quite a bit with a level 21 CA. ---------------- TL/DR - fix your flasks, insure that frenzy charges are always up, adopt a defensive play style where you're always on the move and at range, and if you still feel you're taking too much damage grab life nodes from the tree (or drop the frenzy nodes and pick up life instead) and try to build up more evasion. It's normal to take moderate damage from time-to-time and, very occasionally a lot of damage from unforeseen circumstances (especially if you're aggressive)- but with Seething flasks, you can tap-tap-tap your way though any of this and get out of harm's way. For anyone who played this - how does dodge version compare to IR?
IR has the obvious benefit of preventing potential one-shots from phys damage. However, armour does absolutely nothing at all for spells and +added dmg as X map mods, while you can dodge those. Most endgame bosses also have elemental/chaos attacks/spells for which IR is useless. Increasing Field of View in PoE: /1236921 Last edited by Shajirr#2980 on Jan 8, 2016, 11:09:09 AM

" Do you mean "evasion" versus IR? Some greatly prefer evasion, others IR. Try them both and take what you like. Note that both Evasion and Armor mitigate attacks, not spell damage. If you look back a few pages in this thread, IR versus evasion was discussed at some length. You might find that discussion helpful. If instead you're asking weather or not Phase Acrobatics is worthwhile... that too is a controversial topic. Some prefer just grabbing life; I personally think that PA is worthwhile though, since it might bail you out in a situation where you're going to die unless you somehow avoid damage (but note that if you're in this situation often, you're just going to die anyways). " thanks for the feedback. I rarely die and am very mobile so i guess I am doing it right and getting the right results BUT here are scenarios I have a hard time with. Stuff that teleports on you like those lightning COC guys in waste pool Any other creatures or unique that tends to rush you or teleport on you to hit you I cant do jungle valley boss for my life..the spam projectiles on any creatures tends to chain stun / do most of my life in damage so I just end up using flasks like mad just to stay alive but do no damage or have no time to cast totems etc. I find I really rarely use the totems on normal mobs just on bosses usually because I move too much too fast most of the time. maybe im clearing faster than I give myself credit for but it feels slow because i come from BV 90char. Ill work on the flasks next. Im pretyt much broke right now so eventually i can swap chest piece for more eva. Hopefully one day get that bow 6linked. thanks for the feedback. |

Why Andvarius rings are in the gear setup?
Assuming a substantial amount of currency was made, the logical upgrade would be to swap them for far more efficient Ventor's gamble rings, which can have positive resists, and can have IIQ, which far more important than IIR when playing solo. Increasing Field of View in PoE: /1236921

" Yes, Ventor's Gamble can be better than Andvarius - but it'll take a well-rolled one. And a well-rolled Ventor's is usually much more expensive than a well-rolled Andvarius. Use the formula: W = (1 + IIR/100)*(1 + IIQ/100) to decide whether or not a Ventor's is better than an Andvarius; choose whichever one yields the higher "W" value, but calculate IIR and IIQ using all of your gear. If you can afford the well-rolled Ventor's, go ahead and purchase it. =============== One more thing to consider: The above forumla for W, does not consider currency drops; so, in cases of close calls, favor IIQ (Ventor's) over IIR (Andvarius). ================= As for why Andvarius versus Ventor's in the gear setup... I think Serleth wanted to keep this guide friendly for the new player. Over-complicating things such as whether or not to get a well-rolled Ventor's versus an Andvarius may have been perceived to be too much information to initially digest for the aspiring CA player; certainly there are many more important details to focus on.
