Account Security and Theft Policy - READ THIS
I've had no issues with anything outlined in this guide and still get my account wiped due to hacking. Hopefully the security updates do something to help us players because customer support is lacking.

" The trouble with things like this is that it can be *really* hard, even as an expert, to determine whether a machine is infected by a rootkit and/or silently waiting for botnet commands to respond to. There are tools out there which silently install themselves onto your computer when you run something else or visit a site which exploits a Java vulnerability or any number of other ways. These rootkits alter your system in ways that prevent you or other programs (including virus scanners) running on your machine from seeing their running processes and make files containing their code look like ordinary official versions of system files, and the only way to know that they're there is to boot the machine off of another disk or put the hard drive into another machine with uninfected system tools, and notice that various system files no longer match the ones that come with the OS (or if you're lucky, a virus scanner will be able to notice the infected files at that point). If I was someone who was affected by the recent password thefts, I would be very much concerned about the state of my system. There are also myriad other ways that any given password might be compromised, many of which are quite sneaky and easily missed. Lists of compromised user accounts and passwords from attacks made on various other sites exist out there, and it's quite possible that those have a nontrivial intersection with Path of Exile players. If you can be 100% certain that you've never used the same password before, then it's all the more reason to suspect that your system is somehow compromised or that you might have at some point accidentally signed in to a phishing site which looked pretty much identical to pathofexile.com except for having a slightly different address. some tips to help secure ur computer despite my lak of compassion for wiki hoes.
use firefox!!! internet explorer is the most unsecured browser in existence. dont really trust any of the others tbh. faster browser with chrome means u are sacrificing security. firefox with noscript... it prevents every website from executing java on ur computer unless u allow it. also ghostery allows u to see who's tracking your web browsing and block them. despite what java promised it proving to be a failure at being secure in any way whatsoever. there are quite a few others addons for firefox also i recommend CCleaner and malwarebyte free. CCleaner removes history tracking cookies junk and is one of the best pc cleaners/stabilizers ive ever used. malwarebytes is just a no brainer free ofc. once or twice a week with both of these and ur computer remains junk file free and stable/clean without paying for anything whatsoever. dont let these replace ur primary security package they are just supplementary to something that is good. McAfee & Nortons are junk.
damage modifiers don't can currently can't apply to degen.
" Chrome has no script as well... and GJ not talking about ad block. and LOL saying Norton is junk. Symantec is still one of the industry leaders in AV software. |

" Lol! Looks like we got a security professional over here. I wouldn't give up my paid and professional Norton Security Suite for Malwarebytes crappy security that's really bad advice. Also who the hell still uses Internet Explorer? Last edited by kn0ckkn0ck on Feb 23, 2013, 8:49:07 AM

" Norton isn't complete garbage but not that great either. Definitely not worth paying for though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vevMayUWcwQ See Norton failed completely. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QP11zLxuUw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1SZ1tXPl54 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKGoj0QWQmQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uAxFxjjR_Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYlN3vdnzSI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8OQaYn94nQ At the moment Comodo Internet Security is by far the best security software available and it's free too. " As I said in my last post.. Norton isn't complete garbage but not that great either. Also you don't even seem to know what Malwarebytes is. It's not comparable to Norton Internet Security or any other Internet Security software. It's an on demand scanner. Though it does have a real time protection but it's not that great. It's a very good on demand scanner. | |
I don't run suspicious looking programs and even if I did I would run it on a virtual machine with sandboxie and also that video is really old.
I know what malwarebytes is and I thought that you suggested to replace Norton with malwarebytes which I thought was funny but I missed what you said at the bottom. Last edited by kn0ckkn0ck on Feb 23, 2013, 4:35:26 PM

is there anybody on this forrum that knows, if my provider gives me a new ip adress durring a PoE session wil i get kicked because of the new anti hack protection in place?
i noticed this afternoon i got a new adress and i was kicked and had to get a delock key from my e-mail adress. If this is the case a lot of people wil be unesecarly allarmed i think, because they would assume they were hacked while in fact they just got a new ip adress and poe misttakes it for a hack attempt and asks for a delock key....(also if poe autokicks when ure provider gives u a new ip adress a lot of people in HC mode are about to die in an awfull mather....myself included, i fear for this know o.O ) Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes
