Why in hell would someone brute force a password to an e-mail he dosen't even know if an account with this e-mail even exists in poe? explain to me how they are able to get anyones login e-mail to even try?

the hackers have vast lists full of login data from previous hacked sites and game services like linkedin, sony, etc. some of this lists were made public so everyone could download it.

they just try those combinations that are already valid!

why should they try to bruteforce and may get lucky every some hours when they can rip off dozens of accounts in the same time?

bruteforce is valid if you want to crack a file on your hard drive but in no way over the internet! we could talk about rainbow tables but then again it's your fault as you used a non-secure password.

Like I said, no matter how unique your password is, it is crackable as the current security system of PoE allows brute-forcing on users passwords.

The only piece of puzzle remain is how those hackers got the emails.

Another thing that frustrates me about this whole ordeal - coming up with account theft policy so late. (Only after the issues began?)

I find strange it that you cite in-game economy as the reason for not restoring items. Isn't it just lack of manpower/resources?
You could, and should, investigate each case, undo the item transfers and ban offending accounts - No dupes end up in the economy and you don't lose paying customers.

Hack's and Bot's = Lose People ingame = Low poblation of players = Nobody Purchase microtransactions. You decide GGG ;)

i really dont want to sound like a douche but i did get hacked and they are telling me that they wont return my items the funny thing is i was contemplating to buy some stash cause i kept constantly running out of space now i look it and think that whats the point. also im not the only one thats thinking this i know a couple of people that are saying the same thing about not making a purchase because its not safe

i cant even find my weapon effect . i realy need support .. :/

so 100 -200 have been hacked out of 70000+ player damm that would really hurt if all those guys wouldnt play anymore

im sorry i have no compassion for idiots that throw themselves out to the world like a wiki hoe that loose ingame items.. i for one could care less if something got stolen its pixels and they can be restored. at the end of this if u are still having fun it dont matter.
