The thing people seem to not understand is that there is a Huge message at the beginning stating that the guide is being updated. The League hasnt even been out for 2 weeks yet and everyone is going nuts over this. Neversink has a life and also plays this game as well. As for survivability, There's a post that even stats "Focus on defense". If you're going for balls out damage over your hp/res, no crap you're gonna get one shot. You're a BOW character. You shouldnt be facetanking anything. And the build is built around being mobile. We have CWDT/Eva/Acrobatics for those moment when we cant escape. The layered defense is a last resort. Your PLAYSTYLE is the first. I'm 83 now as the scion and I can say with complete certainty that I only die when "I" do something stupid. The build also states that you can ADAPT it. Need more HP? Take more nodes. If you have to choose between that 400dps bow that keeps you at 4k hp or gear that caps your res and throws you over 6k....Choose the damn gear. A dead DPS does no DPS. Bosses are stronger as well. They got hp buffed so this build isn't going to kill bosses as fast as it used to. And that's the same for ALL builds until you start dumping tons of EX into it. It's over 900 posts and 850+ are complaining/asking questions that have been answered into the ground.

There is a difference between what you intend to state (the substance of this guide is a WIP) and "PIECING TOGETHER THE GUIDE, LINKING ITEMS, CREATING PICTURES". When I read this, I think "substance is ok, form is not but I don't care".
I do agree on the fact that people are sometimes harsh for whatever justified (or not) reason. But maybe, just maybe, this time (I don't deny the quality of the past builds), the guide is a bit less polished whereas it is not flagged as a WIP (by the past, he used this flag). I would have preferred honesty about the fact that things might not work as intended.

Imo the people aren't really harsh considering the state of the guide. Following the 3.0 update Neversink covered a lot of the most important changes, improving the guide compared to 2.6 (passive tree, ascendacy, bow/quiver). That said, in 2.6, this guide was flatout bad. The people criticizing the guide are often experienced players and some of them liked the guide initially. But as of now, it's quite sad to see people making the same mistakes over the course of hundreds of pages. Not all of them are following the OPs guide well enough, but some are, and they could use some suggestions/help.

There are quite a bit of good bow guides out there which target a rather costly variant of the build (for example Signalshot in 2.6 or Ahfack's guide in 3.0). This guide could fulfill the same purpose for medium-budget gear - which would fit in really well because of a lot newer players / not experienced with bows reading here.

The gearing for bow builds isn't as straightforward as for 2H RT Sunder/EQ/insert a build. Starting from the necessity to get crit/accuracy on the gear+tree, the variety of the skill tree choices (ascendacies? pure phys conversion? ele bow/Windripper? phys conversion with some ele? pure cold conversion?), non-clear-cut supportgems - there are a lot of potentially confusing things out there.

Since hundreds of pages people struggle with life and single target. I'd bet that the best budget quiver option (as of now) which would help a lot is not mentioned in this guide. Neither are people focusing on equipping barrage in a pseudo-6l (or later 6l), getting a bow, which is suited for single target, or taking point blank. Starkonja's is mentioned in the guide, but remains an unpopular choice out here (we're talking about up to 100 flat life), people are still favouring maligaro's, I don't know, where to stop. Taking into account that belly+Kaom's are expensive in this league (surprise, surprise), the result is something like 3k life + no dmg...which is SO avoidable..

What gloves would you recommend?
Rat's Nest is surely ok - as is abyssus. My problem with those helmets is that they almost require Kaoms/Belly - or a sizeable increase of %hp on the passive tree.

Well..there are options. Gripped gloves are still there, quite easily craftable (or you can buy a weaker base with the new hybrid roll). Since I'm in the process of purchasing gear for a new doomfletch character, I came across this thing, and bought it for 9c, just out of utter disbelief..

Even for the dedicated doomfletch tree/gear, it came dmgwise close to +1 drillneck. For the regular build, I don't even want to know the PoB result.

The most difficult part about the budget bow build is imo the economy problem. A lot of good items jump in price after two weeks or so (or not even one week in 3.0) - which is quite punishing for those who couldn't get the items in time.

@shiftedaura:

as the budget-version (no 6l, max 1 5-l) thunderfist are great. For endgame, something like
on a gripped-gloves base. The most important stats are imo life + attack speed - try to get 2 decent suffixes with it (preferably accuracy or resistances.

A hybrid life roll

or a flat phys roll are very nice additions as well.

EDIT2: forgot to mention hrimsorrow as an option (frostblade-ish). With the cold conversion nodes and frost bomb for single target, it's a decent alternative. Not sure at all, if you can compete with ele conversion or doomfletch prism at the highest level of gear - but imo it deserved to be mentioned as a leveling / mapping option. Pure cold conversion makes it easier to kill bosses (frost bomb + easy Wise Oak balancing) - the disadvantages are the bad vinktar-viability and the missing life roll.

Hey ! I'm sry if the answer is already in these 900 pages but it's a lil bit hard to find.
Since i'm following build 2 (sion ele/ass-eye) i'm having huge troubles to sustain mana costs even with a jewel 0.38% phy mana leech OR 2 mana per hit.
I'm runing a 4L only atm, the guide says about picking a mana leech node but the tree present in the guide doesn't pick it and it's still low mana leech.

Should i take alira bandits reward ? Manage to use Parix ( wich solve all the mana problems but lack of life / res) ? add more mana leech jewels ?

About the bandits btw, isn't alira a good choice since we rely on crit and 15% all res is always good ?

^^ Mana issue is in the tree section @ rigth buttom part with those nodes you can easily sustain 40+ mana per ts. My bow guy reserve 75% but i dont have mana issue just keep in mind that arrows must hit the mob in order to leech. Hope this help.
People people having issues with this build starter guide, focus more on defense options suggested.

Just completed act 10, and it was a breeze (until Kitava - screw that boss).
I focused mainly on defense. At 71 I have 3.4k HP, max resists (before merciless debuff now but and 13k evades/30dodge. Killed using just TS ( 4L 10k DPS, everything dies fast still)for single/AOE and Ballista in 4 socket for bosses mainly (so i can kite and still wear them down). Don't even have CWDT setup until recently, and no COH setup yet at all. I have boots at 72 which will solve merc resist debuf that and need better rings as old are level 20 and crappy).

Never felt squishy and even gave up at times due to lazyness and facetanked some bosses.
I haven't even picked up Vaal Pact, and did second sewers with -30 chaos and unique decimator bow removing life leach without any issues.
I have 5 points not spent as I'm not sure where to put them as this is the furthest I have reached ever, maybe into skills behind acro, or maybe convert 40% to cold in the passive trees.

I picked Alira for bandits and don't regret that one bit. Yes, early on you need to pick all the mana leach nodes, but later you can respec out to only 1.

By the way this guide says will update soon so for all of new players please keep in mind in passive tree focus more on HP nodes you wont go wrong and by the time neversink updated this guide your already tanky enough to keep the ready to fill damage nodes. Hope this help and if you have any question I will try to answer based on experienced.

Just focus more in surviving hits (more hp, max resistance) you wont go wrong then go for more damage.
the tree and everything works if u take the advice and build around it. it does say build "Guide" not everyone gonna lay it all out for u learn when to grab nodes and gear and such I'm enjoying the build tbh

Not using TS but LA, does it change mana cost ? Anyway i'll give a try to these nodes and i'll see what happen =)
^^ my experienced in LA should be better for leeching mana because the mechanics of 3 lighting projectile auto detecting mob will surely hit something nearby. Moreover if i switch to LA mana leech is performing better due to its mechanic of auto tracking mobs.
^^ SoloSwag said it right and build works not only by passive tree, right gears and jewelries is needed in order to reflect a good results.
