With the poison gem nerf

The Poison support gem's mana multiplier has been increased from 125% to 135%. It now has 0.5% poison duration per quality (down from 1%). It has 0% increased Poison Damage at gem level 1 (down from 25%) and gains 2% per gem level (down from 5%).

It feels like the puncture trap setup needs to be torn down
Can anyone suggest an optimal levelling skill for ranger for single target and multi? I was thinking Shrapnel Shot or Ice shot. Any suggestions?
i used ice shot and siege ballista fairly effectively until i get TS.

and then i immediately jump on TS 4 linked. tried starting with LA chain setup, but that early TS edges it out.
@NeverSink, with the more damage added to pierce gem, are there changes to the main build you'd make? also, are you going to update guide/loot filter before or after patch? i plan on rushing the whole game and then coming back for ascendancies later, i was just curious when i should check back.

It is all perfectly viable. First obvious reason being Ascendancy classes are a flat out buff. If it worked just fine before the patch without an Ascendancy class there is no reason why it shouldn't work now. With the two examples you brought up Deadeye brings good abilities for an LA setup and Pathfinder likewise brings good options for a TS setup :)

Or you could switch between different setups within deadeye (chain ability is great for LA setup).

What about going raider for the frenzy part of the tree, eliminating the need for a frenzy charge setup except against bosses without adds


Raider is also great =) You are not eliminating the need for frenzy generation with Raider. 10% is not reliable. Besides blood rage gives you leech and 20% attack speed :) Raider gives you even better frenzy charges and onslaught! That is a massive boost for clear speed which is great.

This is a really strong puncture trap :) Really good for Uber Atziri split phase and other specific boss type maps.

Thanks a lot for the input. Is it possible to change class or refund points in that tree? Nothing on the wiki yet, on that matter.

And currently I think I favor Deadeye for "Fast and Deadly", "Ricochet" and "Far Shot", planning to use LA as main skill.
Updated the frontpage. It's not final, there will be some minor iterations and improvements!

If you guys have any suggestions/critique etc, please post it, I've been stalking up this thread in the past days, but the ascendancy class choices on page 1 are more or less what I think works best. Might make a video too.

Is puncture trap still the best single target complement to tornado shot or is frenzy/blast rain a better option
Assassin/Raider Scion looks tempting. Other option I'm considering is leveling as Deadeye/TS and switching to Raider/LA later on.

Hard to tell at work without the tree planner, but are the passive tree links updated?
Also, it would be awesome to have leveling trees for Scion. If not progressive trees, at least some notes on order of priorities :)
