Hi All
Started playing POE today , and i'm a little bit confused . I'm following Neversink's guide and reached lvl 24 i have a couple of question .. 1) GEMS TO LEVEL IN YOUR SECOND WEAPON SLOT: 1x Pierce 1x GMP 2x Physical Projectile attack damage 1x Fire damage 1x Herald of Ice These gems benefit a lot from gem level. Once your regular gems hit level 20 and you can use the GMP recipe to reset them to level 1/20%, you want to swap in these gems until the gems hit a high level again. What does this mean ?? i do not understand the last sentence .. does it mean that once i resetted the gem to lvl 1 with 20% bonus i need to level it again to 20 ? 2) I am leveling all the gems i'm using , but i do not understand if this is the correct way , i've been reading some forums and many ppl advice against leveling gems as the requirements and mana cost go up . What should i do ? Level them or no ?? Thanks a lot
Spoiler
anything to improve on my gemming or jewelry gear? should i switch my belt to a rustic or a heavy belt and aim for higher stats to replace some resist gear? Message Rimstars to contact me.

" When the gems hit level 20 you want to use the GCP recipe to make them 20 quality. However, they reset back to level 1. Because of this they will be weak until you level them back up. You want a backup set of these gems already leveled up to swap in while your new 20 qual gems level up more. Then switch back to the new ones. " The only gems you need to worry about not leveling are either str/int based gems, or gems in a CwDT setup. The former because you might not have the str/int needed to use them if you level them too high. You can counter this by taking the +30 nodes on the tree, but you eventually want to get the stats entirely on gear in order to use the passives somewhere more useful. For the CwDT gems, they have to have a level requirement equal to or lower than the CwDT gem to trigger. For example, if your CwDT gem requires level 50, the active gems linked to it need to require level 50 or below. You want to have your CwDT gem a lower level (I like level 9) because you need to take more damage to trigger it the higher level it is. This only applies to active gems linked to it, so if you have a passive such as Increased Duration feel free to level it to max. Hope that wasn't too confusing. Telrex , many thanks for replying back !
i THINK i understand what you are saying : If i link an active to a CWDT gem the gem needs to match or be lower than the level requirement of the CWDT itself which , at the same time , i want to keep at low lvl in order to require less damage to trigger . Sounds clear enough :D For the other gems , does this mean that i SHOULD NOT be leveling ,for example , Herald of Ash because it is a Str/int gem and keep it at lvl 1? dex/int -> lvl to 20 , reset to 1+20% , lvl again str/int -> leave at 1 str -> ? int -> ?
What to do with nerfed Reduced mana? You can't now run multiple auras anymore...

" You can level them up past 1, but make sure you have enough str and int to use them. So if for example (these are random numbers) you have 100 strength and a ring that gives you +15 str. You level up your Herald of Ash as high as it lets you, say it requires 114 str and the next level requires 118 (it will not let you level it further until you meet the requirements). Then you find a better ring but with no str bonus. You can't wear the better ring and still use your HoA since you need 114 str and you only have 100. You now need to find more str either on the passive tree or another piece of gear. The best way to do this is get the +30 nodes that you pass if you're following the guide, and make sure to only level these gems so much so you can use them without gear bonuses. Then later when you're buying your end game gear you can get the bonuses on your gear and remove the +30 tree bonuses. tl;dr: Be careful when levelling up to not overlevel your gems. Don't make it so you need to rely on a sub optimal piece of gear to use your gems. |

" It depends on how important the gem is,how big the the gain is from leveling it and what the requirement for it is, for example you definitely want lvl 20 herald of ash and it shouldnt be too hard because you only need 95str+66int. I can't give you an exact answer unless you tell me what gems you're talking about. Last edited by MuFeR#1700 on Jul 25, 2015, 1:03:42 PM

Exept for the CwDT setup, you should always level up your gems. You'll maybe struggle improving your gears that provide you with stat (INT-STR), but i rather have better gems than better gears while leveling ;D

Yeah if I wasn't clear you eventually want all your gems max level (except of course the CwDT gems). But be careful leveling them too early before you reach endgame.

" You still have enough to use Hatred and a Herald. Enlighten is the new Reduced Mana, except it's way more expensive, takes forever to level, and isn't as good. If you're still running out of mana get more mana leech. |
