Drowning Orbs...the dumbest mechanic ever created
|
I just spent 10 minutes sitting in one corner of a mirage with drowning orbs spawning all around me until one finally caught up to be. 5 deaths in this map all before of a mechanic you cannot see, where you have a fraction of a sec to move away from and if you move into another one, you just die.
Green orbs on a green map...what a great plan...and they seem to spawn endlessly and are unavoidable on any map which isn't open. Whoever created that or thinks it should not be removed should be fired and never dev for any game ever again. Last bumped on May 13, 2026, 8:39:47 AM

I dont like you lose mechanics either but you can frostblink out of them. Idk the situation where you're actually stuck for 10 minutes. You can also totally see them just fine.

+1
they add only tedium and annoyance. Discuss ideas, not people.

Treat them like boos from super mario. If you face them they back away from your character. They really arent that bad.

Then you weren't in the map I was. A map with tight areas and this area had drowning orbs everywhere I go. And the worst part. I could stand in a back corner, looking out to the rest of the map and a drowning orb would spawn on top of me. I blink out, right into another one.
It's dumb, it bad and if a map is cramped, there is no place to go. Just the fact they can spawn on top of you makes zero sense. |

I don't do maps with drowning orbs because i play hc, but i guess if you hate it that bad roll over it. Its the same principle as reflect maps if you're not immune to reflect.

" I'm gonna have to push back against this one. As much as I hate reflect even though I play builds that naturally aren't affected by it (ED+Cont, Blight of Contagion, summoner), at least there are ways to counter that mechanic if you wanna pay a hefty amount of currency to acquire it. There is zero counterplay to drowning orbs which grants you immunity to them. You either move or you die, no amount of defense and layers will ever stop that from happening. I think it should be either removed or reworked to something that isn't just a "you lose" mechanic. At the very least, make it so when the screen blackens from being in the orb, you start taking heavy damage over time until you get out. That way you can add counterplay in the form of life sustain. PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! The others found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on juice. I am not so foolish. |

There is a counter to it, frostblink is the counter to it. not effected by action speed.

" there is a "counter" to them and that is immunity to actionspeed reduction imo the drowning orbs would be a lot less problematic if they didnt totaly fuck your action speed frostblink works well because its an instant skill, sadly flame dash gets destroyed by its casttime to a lesser degree the same can be said for delirium "slow" zones however these dont instant kill you,if you didnt react the moment you get "hit" by them |
