why my excitement dropping loot was never worse than in poe1
|
because like 99.9% of the loot i get is trash.
im only hunting for specific bases (sometimes) but mostly currency. why can other games make me exciting for loot but path of exile cant? why is there loot in the first place if all we do is to craft our gear? (craft of exile is real). i'd really like to know why i have to sit through hours of archaic crafting methods (alt-aug) only to get a mediocre result. just as an example phys axes are the worst things to craft and i wont ever find an upgrade on the ground, i've spend like 3 hours last time to get t1 phys flat and % to roll with alt aug method and recomb, this were the most unfun hours of my entire gametime in poe and the last time i tried this method i didnt got anything good out of it so i just wasted hour long alt aug clicking (my fingers hurt). " Easy: PoE needs a currency sink to prevent the player-driven market from inflating, so they tied it to gambling and called it "crafting". Drops are terrible by design, because they want you invested in gambling to delete your currency for the good of the market. PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! The others found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on juice. I am not so foolish. |

" Why are you picking the path with high time investment and lots of clicking if you don't like spending the time and the clicks? Alt-aug isn't the only approach you have for physical weapons even if you still decide to recomb. |

i think a big part of it is that the answer is to drop less loot.
power of an item is kind of irrelevant in some way because you can balance the power of monsters to make any item great or rubbish right? so just park the idea of how 'good' the item is vs the monsters. if you find 10 items the best item is 1 in 10. if you find 10,000 items the best item is 1 in 10,000. at some point if you want to improve the chance of you picking up an item that is great compared to the general standard of other items you have picked up you just have to drop less loot. but they cant do that, because the community will see a reduction in the amount of stuff dropping as a nerf = everyone' gets out the pitchforks. so theyre stuck. the community wont accept the changes needed to fix it like vastly reducing the loot, slowing the combat down, making chase outcomes more rare. they are held prisoner, its probably why chris left because we wouldnt even let him make a little optional game mode where he tested ideas he liked in his own time, we cried about ruthless and every time they try to fix anything we soil our nappies screaming about how they are "making the entire game ruthless". cause the other way is to make items have less variance in the way say diablo 3 and 4 have. you are more likely to find a 'good' item there because most items are kind of the same? D4 is a bit less like this than D3 but its still somewhat applicable. the problem here is the more you do that the less special an item can be, everything just becomes kind of mid. i play all these games, theres no item you can show me in D3 that makes me feel anything, you got a primal ancient version of your weapon? ok cool, yeah i got one too. oh you got 2 good suffixes too? 1 only got 1 good suffix. thats rly nice, i bet you feel absolutely 0 gameplay impact at all not just between mine and yours but between yours and a half decent regular ancient you had on day 1 but i guess it looks fancy, ish. meh. D4 you can show me a cool item and its actually cool, but its got no personality because theyre still so 'on rails' with the way their item system works. its not got the feel of some amazing bespoke piece it is still just a factory printed thing it just happened to be printed a little more perfect than usual. its like an amazing antique vs something from ikea. poe there are actually amazing items, you can get excited about an item, it can be so individual and impossible and powerful. you just dont get that in item systems like D3 and D4. D3 and 4 spam you with items and you find the bis item but that comes at the expense of your item just feeling meh. its bis but its also just a generic thing the game was always going to give you and theres a bunch of other people out there who also got basically the same thing drop for them. is that how we want them to 'fix' item drops? i wouldnt want that. so you got to drop less items, make the monsters easier and just tell people no you wont be able to find or craft a 6T1 item, not even a 3T1 item without insane luck, you cant expect to find something with even half the power of a perfect item. and people have to say ok, i can live with that. that will never happen, they will cry and demand that if something can exist they must be given it because they have a wife, 3 kids, 2 jobs and they have rights damn it, they have rights and they DEMAND THE ITEMS!!!!!! I AM ENTITLED!!!!!!!!! because the items in this game can be amazing it creates this need, this item addiction and people with addictions become unreasonable. for the axe use a flat phys essence, when you hit a decedent hybrid phys just prefix lock and veiled exalt, unveil % phys, elder exalt the 5th suffix then if you dont have attack speed you bench it right? thats a 1000 pdps 2h axe with 42% additional attack speed and it took me a couple of minutes and an insignificant amount of pocket change to craft i think? its definitely a problem that this item is way better than most people will ever find but also fairly trivial to craft and the game feels somewhat balanced around the idea youre gonna be using something like this eventually? its kind of a 'mediocre' item from a certain point of view? i think that says crafting is too powerful. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :) Last edited by Snorkle_uk#0761 on May 8, 2026, 5:11:26 AM

Oh boy,
I agree that loot are bad, but unless you play self-solo, and it is still arguable, alt+aug a terrible craft option. But is cheaper indeed. Exiles, pffff!

" Assuming you still want to recomb, you could buy rare axes with one of the mods and beast split + annul them. Memory strands and phys reforges are an alternative to buying and so is the black market. Fossils are too expensive. |

Disagree with most of the op but alt+aug crafting needs rework. It is one of the main things that makes poe 1 better than poe 2(no alteration orb, lmao, who came up with that? hf playing this game but not me) but it is to tedious. YOu absolutely need to alt spam if you want to craft, there is no other choice, since you can't just buy blue items with t1 mods. It doesn't work and i tried.
THere needs to be a crafting device where one inserts their alts and augs and it calculates the result according to odds and if you hit after xxx amount of orbs it stops. |

they just need to add an "autocrafting" bench
you put in the item and the currency you want to use than you pick 1! mod you want and the bench rolls until it hits the mod or runs out of currency this would improve crafting a lot and it would burn more currency, because there wouldnt be so much side products from alt+aug crafting since it auto skips other good mods where you normaly would switch to a new base,if the base item isnt one of the extremly valueable ones |
