An Idea for a gem to summon golems on death.

Not everything has to have a downside when you want to get an upside effect.

Leave that philosophy for the other game honestly.

But I wouldnt see why this idea wouldnt work in the future.

The problem for me is that resummoning golems are so inconvenient that its absolutely unusable for builds outside of elementalist. Thats what I d like to see get fixed. If we can get spectres in wisp form we can get resummoning golems as well.

Thats why I wanted to introduce some downsides for having this game on top of the socket pressure it would bring to the build.

Downsides you don't actually care about, yes...

Golems' buffs could very easily have been made Heralds, or Auras, or something else. Them being tied to minions is the point - it is what differentiates them. You're not supposed to be able to assume effortless uptime, as that just makes them 'free' in a way that was never intended.

I think a better idea for such a support gem would be that when a golem would die in an instance, it instead becomes immortal, ceases attacking, and its buff is reduced in effectiveness by (65...35)%. That way the game is less homogenised than if we just duplicated an ascendancy node as a support gem, the downside actually does something, and the flavour of golem skills is retained - you have displeased the golem, and so it is less enthusiastic about supporting you.

They could leverage the system created for Spectres & Animated Guardians that tracks whether they have died in a zone - and instead of having orbs or the lack of a guardian, the game could give you the diminished & pacified golem if that golem has previously died in this instance.

But when I say the downside it also comes with the downside of socket pressure. Not every build has the ability to afford 2 sockets for 1 golem buff, I think thats enough of a penalty on top of the reduced minion life I mentioned before.

I think that downside is just too reductionist. At that point, sacrificing sockets for such a minimal buff would be meaningless. Not effective enough to use.

I think 2 sockets as a cost for the oppurtunity to have this golem buff is enough for such a buff. Elementalist gets 10000 golems with very small socket pressure and rest of the builds just cant even use any. It is like that meme with the rich sucking down the whole pipe and poor having the droplets from the same pipe. I would like to see the poor get a valve as an option.

What if we had trans version of golem gems, with maybe some reduced effect but they resummon themselves upon death with 4 second delay? What would you say?

+1

Posted a very similar idea a while back that also included a few other minions (any permanent minion that does not require a corpse or item(s) to animate).

Yeah, the idea can be reproduced and copied onto other minions.

this could have been atleast 1 "usefull" new exceptional gem

killing the old gems was a really bad choice withotu "good" replacements

my favorite build losr 25%ish dmg with no other upside since non of the new gems are of any use

(lost +1 gem level and 2x 5% more dmg from other gems)

dot skills are becoming worse and worse every league

they are still strong enough when fully geared to take down uber bosses, but it starts becoming really painfull compared to other skills

Dots other than poison is in really bad shape.
I used to be a cold dot player, now I dont even think about cold dot.

No need penalties for re-summoning golems, you already waste 1 gem slot for it. In case they make that gem.
Full time standard player.
Also full timer PoE supporter, from where I have started to play it.

Yep, we dont even need the downside, a simple socket pressure for summoning a golem is enough of a punishment.

I reckon if were at the point of complaining about this GGG may decide just to remove golem buffs all together then water down more minion archetypes like they did with slam totems.
Honestly Golems feel like they could be reworked at this point, the buffs are nice to have but the socket pressure is a lot if you want one that doesn't fall over the second it sees a blue pack. I like the idea of at least having a way to reliably resummon them, might make me actually utilize them again. Imo their buffs felt impactful when they were added to the game but at this point they could use another look, pretty minor buff for giving up gem slots that have consistently seen more pressure since the addition of golems to the game.

Golems been in the game as long as I remember; they make sense as a minion archetype compared to melee totems being a thing. That was ridiculous as a concept, they were on the right to remove that.
