there needs to be fractional divine orb

Oh no, I was proven wrong because one guy said so, and because another guy has some random anecdotal experience.
I think it's weird that the async sell tabs cannot be listed with a .x divine, like normal sale tabs, with the site auto-handling the conversion to chaos for the decimal places.

You can use the old method, and it tells you if someone lists it as 2.8 divs, then it tells the buyer 2 divs and x chaos orbs, but that feature did not make it over to the async sell for w/e reason.

that only works in person though, since the chaos to div ratio is changing all the time, so that's why you need the div shards or it doesn't work and you have to trade for hundreds of chaos like right now.
+1 to this. Chaos as a usable currency is quickly going obsolete with the removal of both map crafts and T17. Nightmare runners will stil use chaos but that's pretty much it. We have no chaos sink.

Since we don't yet have another currency that can be the intermediate step to divines (I honestly thought exalts would become the new chaos considering their drop rate and them being much more useful than chaos), divine shards would be a welcome addition.

-1. its called a chaos orb

Oh lookie there, it's the guy who's being cool cause he's quoting Chris from an interview that's 5 yrs old at a time when the game was in a completely different state. Remember how everyone thought that was so funny? Hahaha yeah...

Basically keeping chaos as the current "divine shard" just sums up to hoarding up thousands of a currency that has no actual use 90% of the time. Please use actual logical facts to explain how that's good design.

What's wrong with annuls and gcps? They've been very stable this league and plenty of people are already using them to price their items.

The issue with annuls and GCP as opposed to the old chaos is that a lot of people don't use annuls and a lot of people don't use GCP. Whereas previously, almost everyone would use chaos for map crafts or T17 farms.

My point is, the intermediary currency should have actual use as a functional currency. If it's just functioning as a trading currency akin to gold (not PoE gold, "standard" rpg gold), it is subject to inflation - see current chaos:div situation.

Imo in the ideal scenario you have a low value currency that has actual use, so you'll spend x% of that currency for your own needs and use the rest to trade for higher value currency. This gives stability to the market because the lower value currency will always be inherently useful.

I personally use both annuls and GCP, but anyone who doesn't craft (and yes that would be a vast majority of players) will almost never use annuls. As for GCP...outside of offhand leveling it doesn't really have any use.

Plus there are other aspects to be considered here - chaos has many sources of deterministic drops, like red altars and chaos recipes (and probably others I can't think of right now). Both GCP and annuls are much harder to "farm". And yeah that may seem funny to a more experienced player, but a newbie farming T1 maps with campaign gear will be doing a lot of chaos recipes.

The "divine shard" currency needs to be accesible, deterministically farmable and have constant in game use imo. Chaos was great because it successfully met all 3 conditions. Now that the 3rd condition is gone, the c:d market is extremely volatile and super inflated. In the current state of the game, I can't see any other currency that meets all 3 criteria for a vast majority of players. Imo exalts are the closest candidate in the current state, yet I don't see a lot of pricing in exalts so I'm guessing that's not very popular (I also can't 100% recall it but I'm pretty sure there was a recipe for exalts).
