Frequent crashes on Linux Arch-based set

I think I figured out the root cause of this- seems like a font rendering issue.

Was looking at the client.txt this morning after frequent crashes and noticed every time the game crashed was after someone with a specific character in their name sent a message.

I copy-pasted their name from the log file into the chat box and the client immediately crashed.

If the issue is based on who is chatting, then that would explain why we're able to play for days at a time without issue then all the sudden we get repeated crashes within minutes of each other.

Long story short, leave chat.

Nice, great find! I can also reliably reproduce crashing with a particular chatter that seems to have a specific character in their name. Edit: if anyone else wants to test it, it's Berse๋rker.

However, I don't think this alone explains all crashes. I played the first month of this league with chat off, but still crashed mysteriously. Same behavior of playing fine then entering this 10 second to 2 minutes crash loop for some time.

Since turning chat on, however, I've been crashing much more frequently, probably due to this.

Edit 2: it could be that having global chat disabled doesn't actually prevent these crashing characters from affecting us, since the game still fills up chat history even with it off, which would explain my first month crashes. Just a hypothesis though. It's probably safer going to some unused channel than simply turning global off.

Was the same person for me.

Agreed that there's probably more to it. I had a crash after filtering out global (albeit after a couple hours instead of minutes); moved to an unoccupied channel and haven't crashed yet. But at least now having a way to directly reproduce a crash gives us some leads as to what's going on and better ideas how to prevent it.

I have been having the same issue. Playing on CachyOS for months with no issues at all, then just started crashing about 2 weeks ago seemingly randomly.

I tried copy + paste "Berse๋rker" into chat to reproduce the issue and instantly crashed.

I have joined a random empty chat channel and will see how long I can go with no crashes.
Can't believe a font is causing these crashes.

So I guess until the issue is resolved, we have to go into DND mode. I just wish there was a toggle to automatically go into DND mode. But a better option would be to just not keep global chat history when it's disabled (I never go there).

As of this writing, I'm in the game with no crashes with DND turned on.

Wow, +1, I pasted e๋ into chat and it crashed my client instantly. Good find
