Don't put brand new players by default into Gauntlet leagues
|
It makes sense to not even show the league selection screen for them, but only if you put them by default into Standard (SoftCore) !
Meanwhile brand new players (you know, those that have the whole travelling animation down the statue and Dominus, and no Scion present) are seemingly still put into Phrecia 2.0 (Trade SoftCore) by default ! And then their Heavy Strike Marauder proceeds to have a 'fun' time against Maven-witnessed, enraged, Hillock... Last bumped on Feb 20, 2026, 6:22:37 PM

" a new player isn't conditioned for the easy mode that is normal poe campaign. maybe they enjoy the struggle. |
|
" I agree. Exiles, pffff!
|
|
" Look, I'm the one to recommend that new players start in Ruthless... but only if they prefer the game to be hard rather than overwhelming, and this super Hillock before they even get to pick a skill is just too much. (Also good luck learning the patterns of enraged bosses.) Not to mention that this will likely happen again in the future, to even harder special leagues. " Did you miss the part about how they don't even get to see the league selection screen unless they start clicking elsewhere ? And why wouldn't a new player expect a 'normal' game type by default ? |

What do you mean, there's no new players for PoE 1.

Nice trolling.

The gauntlet campaign isn't even hard in hcssf once you know what to expect. The only requirement is that you actually pay attention in the campaign and try and get your character to have proper stats in the campaign instead of corpse rushing like a little kid in minecraft.

" I prefer corpse rushing the campaign and getting it done quick, so I can get to the real game: endgame mapping with 4 voidstones socketed. That's the mindset of most SC Trade players. Lifelong NEET, loud and proud about it.

" I don't think you're speaking for "most" players. Because most players don't have to corpse rush early to early-endgame, let alone the campaign, to reach endgame without a absurd amount of deaths. They've already figured out basic defensive layers and needs after act 10. Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun. Last edited by Pashid#4643 on Feb 18, 2026, 11:05:05 PM

About half of PoE1 players never even reached Act 2.
Roughly the same for SC Trade players, because it's the default leagues, even for Phrecia ! (Except for people that thought you had to check at least one of the circles I guess...) I'm not sure why people even bring out anything related to the post-campaign or « hcssf once you know what to expect » in this discussion about brand new players. The problem is that they are likely to not stick around to even get to these points with the start that Phrecia 2.0 has. (I'm not a fan either of the SC Bench gameplay patterns caused by bosses not regenerating any life on death. Causes noobtraps with Kitava slaps. Though here too, Hillock comes with different design concerns.) |
