Loss of XP upon death is to be removed immediately.

Hello,

I think Omen of Amelioration can help you in that sense. This league is the first time I've made it to level 100, and it has been thanks to that item.

Over time it seems the price went up but I remember I was able to get the first ones for around 70C, latest ones were around 1D.

When you are around level 98 they are really handy

I'm sorry to hear that the game that you're wasting your time on is wasting your time.
Have you considered reading a good book instead?

lmao

i would ask OP to play other games instead. there are many other games that cater to more casual playstyle.

many have asked for total removal of xp loss. ggg has not budged for over a decade. i would still prefer if its removed, but ggg doesnt care if players dont like it. all we can do is keep complaining.

Exactly this, and other games will just look more appealing and take people's attention quicker away from a league. Its why I only ever play 1 week then drop out of a patch now. Other games are designed more for casuals like me, and respect my time more. Like Last Epoch, which I'm excited to try out Season 4 of next year in March. I'll play more when exp loss is finally dealt with.

It has been dealt with, considered, debated...

It stays for the betterment of the franchise. It's not a game for all, never has been.

Don't like it play something else.

Try not being so entitled.
s.Lol, the people here are so snub it is ridiculous.
Yes, the xp penalty has been here sine D2 days.
Yes, it has a purpose... in a true ARPG. This is aimed to be a mix between soulslike and an ARPG. Not even close.

Imagine if you died in Elden Ring, and your souls di not drop to the ground, they just got removed. Even D2 did this with the body mechanic, where you could get some of your xp back.

I don't care, one way or another, I think Jonathan is being way too obtuse with his decisions (I mean, this league mechanic, possibly the worse one between both games is his brain child), but if they are aiming for PoE2 to hit the masses, as they are saying they are, they will have to make some compromises. The retention of this league has not been stellar, to say the least.

The penalty should probably stay, but as it is now, it is way too severe for a casual player. Hell, I have more than 8k hours in PoE, and it tilts me from time to time. It needs balancing, either in the amount xp gained, or the penalty value.

Don't glaze on the company when they are wrong because of past successes.
(There seems to be some people in here arguing for removing it who are clearly thinking about PoE2, based on things in their comments, like the game being partly a soulslike which is definitely not true for PoE1, which is what this feedback forum is for. My view relates only to PoE1 because I haven't really played much of 2 for a while.)

I'm not entirely unsympathetic to the personal dislike of death penalty. It hurts when you're trying to get to 100 and you die in level 99. That said, I would say that it adds more to the game than it takes away, for me personally. And it's worth pointing out that both sides of this argument come down to personal preference.

I remember being new-ish, and not reaching 100 in my first several leagues, because I'd always reach a point where I would die too often to get to the next level. Initially, this was infuriating, but after a while, I kind of realised something - by the time the penalty becomes painful, XP and levels are no longer your main source of progress - it's currency and gear that are. Getting from 98-100 will add very little to a character, because you've already got the most, and second most, important sets of nodes on the tree.

So for me, having the penalty in adds to the league loop, and keeps me playing longer - instead of just brute forcing a glass cannon through many deaths to 100 in a few days, if I want to get a character to 100, I'll need to pause leveling for a bit, gear up, and then do it. This, for me, extends the league's life. (As someone who likes to challenge the SSF ladder from time to time too, I think it also adds to that experience/allows me to do this without just glass cannon 6 portalling).

And so I'll respectfully disagree that it should be removed from PoE1, but I do understand the point of view in the other direction.

OP is most likely playing PoE 2.....

Speaking as someone who is currently playing PoE 2, why would they?

The death penalty there is even harsher than PoE 1. If you play with 6mod maps, and you really should if you want to use all 3 precursor tablet slots, a single death ends the map and you're forced to do a walk of shame by repeating an empty map with no rewards in order to move forward. As a consequence, everyone is either playing the most busted nuke build and/or using the most meta defenses to make dying a non-issue.

If OP hates the death penalty here, they're going to loathe the other game.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

And the winds will cry / and many men will die / and all the waves will bow down / to the Loreley

This isn’t true. Just like in PoE1, you are not forced to follow the so-called meta to succeed in the game. If we judge by build and class popularity on Poe Ninja, my build is only played by one percent of players, so by your logic it is totally unviable and off-meta. Yet I manage to clear all of the game’s content, including endgame, without worrying about high-tier maps or deaths, even in SSF, and without even trying that hard.

Just like in PoE1, it is all about understanding how things work and simply getting good. Nothing more, nothing less.
