Path of Exile is similar to other games from which it draws inspiration. You are playing a character, not an avatar of yourself. This is not an MMO. Of course, you could say "But why CAN'T a witch be male?" The answer is because that's the way the creators chose to create their game, setting, and lore. It just is.

I'm all for it in theory, but if the devs say it's more work than it's worth, I believe them, and since any class can use any weapon, you effectively can live out your dream of having a female warrior or male witch in everything but name so I really don't see it as a priority.

I am sure that any game wont be really interesting if every implented feature were strictly calculated and weighted to achieve that minimal threshold of "content" and no more. Sometimes, you need to do something more.

This lame bad stupid argument remains as lame, bad and stupid as it has always been. "You're playing a character, not a toon/avatar!" people say...as they walk around as a Witch with a flaming skull head spewing decapitated unicorns from its ears, smashing enemies with a giant hammer that flings dolphins from every swing while wearing a hair metal band outfit and covered in so many auras and shinies and particle effects that it gives people epileptic seizures from the next house over.

Not one single player in all of Path of Exile, 1 or 2, respects the "Character" of their characters while mutating them beyond all possible chance of recognition into some horrible bastardized atrocity of Optimal DPS. Hiding behind the "they're characters!!!" argument to try and smokescreen sexist transphobic misanthropic bullshit will never be okay.

Just be honest and say what we all know y'all really think - "I don't want this crap in my games because I hate the kind of people who do want it in my games." It's not like the PoE community has made any secret whatsoever over the years of being breathtakingly exclusionist.
