Every other game puts their speed runners over in a corner lets them have fun but it doesn't effect the larger player base.

Those events are only interesting for 1% of the playerbase...this is becouse they do not show the characters and the process of getting from 1 to the boss.
I dont care for 10 nicknames in a table in a forum post...but i would care and watch an interesting highlights video and some information on winners and how they made it.
Like they had "build of the week" videos before
