More Secret Treasure Rooms in Campaign Dungeons - Incentive Exploration

Not all players play alike, some take a more methodical approach to the game and enjoy a slow playthrough of the campaign. I think GGG could sprinkle in a few more RPG elements and it would be a welcome addition.

Depends on majority. And majority of poe audience has "divs/per/hour" mindset. They don't care about RPG. Actually I doubt they even care about "Action" too. What they really play for is a slot-machine.

I'm not sold on that, and think many players can appreciate RPG elements, especially for players that enjoy the campaign.

Yes, but such players just go and play good RPGs like Baldur's Gates.
And if we speak about poe population... well, just read what troubles them (or what they like) in their feedback posts. They never even mention that POE2 could have more RPG features (that is "low" or "very low" priority for them).

Why would they bother?

Definition of ARPGs:

Action role-playing games emphasize real-time combat where the player has direct control over the characters as opposed to turn or menu-based combat while still having a focus on character's stats in order to determine relative strength and abilities. These games often use action game combat systems similar to hack and slash or shooter games.

So yeah, Hack & Slash plus shooter elements reign supremely.
No idea why you guys act surprised

What does that have to do with adding more secret passageways or doors to dungeons? Nothing.

Also the definition of ARPG:

"An Action Role-Playing Game (ARPG) is a video game genre that combines real-time action combat with the character progression, customization, and narrative elements of traditional role-playing games (RPGs)."

IMO if you want to brand a genre with a definition you look at the origin. Diablo 1. Yes, things change. It used to just be called "Techno" now there's a ridiculous number of sub-genres. The difference being they're sub-genres. This is more kin to older rappers making fun of newer rap.

In other words a lot of people still want my definition of ARPG. Not yours.

Takes dev time.

PoE2 isnt in a good state. No matter what sort of game you want it to be.
Its allover the place and doesnt really know what it wants to be.

I dont care too much which direction GGG goes, just pick one and stick to it.
This weird frankenstein of a game doesnt really serve anyone imo.

Yep. I think "sitting on 2 chairs" vision will soon collapse. And I predict POE2 will take full POE1 route and POE1 will be abandoned eventually. Perhaps that was the plan from the very start - I mean, making "frankenstein". To attact new people and drag them into old but working formula. But I think this plan of theirs will fail (or at the very least won't bring them what they were hoping for).

While I agree with the vision part, I dont think they planned it at all.

Ive worked as Producer/Team-/Project-Lead for a decade in this industry and the lead devs said some really scary things I dont ever want any dev to say.

Has nothing to do with their vision. The scary things they said very much hints towards them not having a cohesive vision but a bunch of fancy ideas instead. Those ideas may or may not sound awesome on paper but dont have much synergy and sometimes contradict each other even.
And thats the main issue of this game right now.

Which means they will have to be honest with themselves, pick a direction, kill ideas that dont go well with that new direction out, survive the backlash and keep going.
Its tough and I dont envy them one bit.

I mean, they planned to introduce a lot of stuff both from POE1 (for old fans) and these "fancy ideas" (to attract new people). I don't mean they knew it would never work but stll did it no matter what. Probably they hoped it will be ok and old fans will be happy with old stuff in a new game and new people will be happy with "fancy ideas" -) Like, simultaneously.
