I started with Minions, tried out SrS for a while, tested other bone/minion stuff and now just for fun going with chaos skills then I reached Endgame (because mionions became too boring). Did not even pay much attention to gear. Most stuff is still from act3 (normal) and my reistences are not even remotely capped (cold is in the negatives). The passive Skilltree during the campaign was just all over the place because I had no idea what to go for. The only time I had to respec a was then switching to chaos skills. I am sure for high tier maps better attention to gear and skills is required. But some people here sound like its absolutely unplayable because they still have to roll now and then and play attention toi what the boss is doing. o.O Sure, sometimes the minions die too easily in a boss fight. Yes, big freaking elephant drums for ears is clearly what you have. You want an easier game, go play one. This isn't the easy mode game you are looking for, and it won't ever be it.
