Please bring back Trials of The Ancestors as an endgame mechanic for Path of Exile 1 in patch 3.29!

Bring back ToTA
The fact it is not back in something related to ANCIENTS is insane.

3. An addition to the point above, I know some people were not fans of the "TOTA cheese" builds that were popular back during the TOTA league. These builds were essentially zhp all-in on CC effects to enable massive temporal chains / chill / knockback effects in addition to phasing and dodge to allow the player to zoom past enemy units and channel the totems right away. Part of me appreciates the build diversity that these sort of things have, another part also agrees it meant that every run was an auto-win because of how strong they were. With that said, I'll also point to other mechanics that have builds tailored specifically to them, such as Heist with its zdps 500% movement speed builds and Sanctum with its zhp off screen zoom dps builds. Perhaps GGG can balance such that cheese builds are still possible but much harder to achieve.

Everybody loves being able to cheese something.
100% agree. Let some cheese builds remain viable.

Shortterm memory issues obv. it was horribly imbalanced and only niche builds where able to reliably grind it at fist. It was rage inducing and players suffered from random one shots. On top of that, mobas are as polarizing as it gets. LoL is one of if not the most unhealthy game there is for your mindset.

Good riddance tota, plz keep it in the "not so great but it was worth a try" league mechanic vault and never let it out again, hehe

I'm fairly convinced players only enjoyed this dumpster fire because it printed absurd amounts of currency. If the profits hadn't been so effortless, I doubt many would have cared about the mechanic at all, and even now most of the praise seems tied more to the rewards than the gameplay itself. If it wasn't for the easy, low effort currency, I doubt anyone would still be asking for its return today.

You're largely right though. It worked as a one league experiment, but it never felt like something that belonged in PoE. At its core, PoE is about killing monsters and getting loot. This mechanic did the opposite, encouraging players to avoid combat and stand around channeling pylons like some mobile game objective. It had very little in common with what makes PoE enjoyable in the first place.

The only genuinely good thing to come out of TotA were the tattoos. Thankfully, they found their way into the core game without dragging along the abomination of a league mechanic that came with them.

+1

But only after GGG rebalances the content so you don't have to run a very specific niche build to farm it. That was my biggest gripe with TotA.

i used to love sanctum as it was highly skill based but rewarded players for actually playing well.

they rebalanced sanctum in a way that the only way i'd play it is if my build deletes all enemies in literal seconds.

in TotA, i dont know how GGG would balance it. being stunned all the time is no fun. some builds do it exceedingly well.

if enough players want tota back i guess its a mechanic i dont mind ignoring.
