3.23 EXPLOSIVE ARROW BALLISTA ELEMENTALIST - League-Start to End-Game. Easy mode.

Have cold attack on bow, and yep use EE. Hey wait, it’s just added cold damage, not cold damage to attacks. Is that affecting EE? I was relying on that to implement EE.

Where is the attack rating coming from in this build? Am I missing something on the gear or tree thats giving 100% hit chance?

Precision aura gives some, the rest will come from your gear.. you can get a bit from the passive skills but your gear will give you the most

Copy that, appreciate reply. I guess I will need to just sac something on the stat sheet for attack rating. I cant seem to fit precision properly without sacrificing survivability. Any tips on certain gear pieces to focus on for AR?

There is a discussion on this on p. 87. As I understand it, the “cold damage” gets added to the fire damage at the time of the explosion but of itself does not proc EE. The key seems to be “to attacks” so the first attack, i.e. the one before the explosion, procs EE so when the fire explosion takes place EE has proced. I have “add x-y cold damage to attacks” which is different than the cold damage on the helm. Multiple attacks before the explosion make no difference as they don’t proc fire. However, you must be doing ok looking at your level.

IMHO GGG has made this too confusing.

Happy new year to all as well! So you pros out there, what’s best for my build next? Thinking flammability ring, and then helm (but mega divine there and I’m a bit short) but open to your ideas and suggestions….

Check out the gear guide here it has a step by step what to upgrade

ah shucks, i didn't know that it had to be cold/lightning damage TO ATTACKS for EE to proc. probably why hyrri's is so good then, since it gives a really strong damage range plus it says "to attacks" so it triggers EE as well.

quoting Schejian from the page you referenced:

"
Now say you have a Bow with a "Adds 38 to 638 Lightning Damage" (LOCAL)(average ~335) :
1 Arrow: Do Zero DMG with the Arrow itself and adds a 650 Fire delayed Explosion And add 50% of the 335Lighnting Dmg to the Explosion, and 5%Fuse Bonus
10 Arrow: 6500Fire Damage and 1675 Lightning PLUS 50% More Bonus
20 Arrow: 13000Fire Damage and 3350 Lightning PLUS 100% More Bonus

when he/she mentioned this, does it mean that having lightning damage (but not TO ATTACKS) on bow is next to useless for EE? (it's probably still useful for raw damage since ascendancy takes this damage as into account on "All Damage can ignite")

i'm asking because i left this on my bow for EE

further:
did a bit more digging around, and it seems like Palsteron's video talks about blizzard crown's implicit being able to proc EE. is there a definitive way to test this?

All the different posts are contradicting and very confusing lol.. I also read somewhere that added damage is more general and should work the same .. and if Palsteron said that in his video then it is most likely correct unless something changed in the past 11 months.

From what I understand (I think)

Added 1- 2 cold damage to attacks - specifically attacks
Added 1- 2 damage to spells - specifically spells
Added 1- 2 damage - adds damage to everything

We could go based on this and assume that it works the above, or you can try finding a way to see if EE is actually getting applied

EE applies Exposure which is a debuff. One way that debuffs get applied is “on hit”. So you have to hit with an element to start the debuff, e.g. cold or lightning or both. So “added damage” either applies the debuff or gets massed into the resulting fire explosion. If it’s the former, the amount of added damage doesn’t matter. The words “on hit” have been logically equated with the words “to attacks”.

How do we know that Adds # to # {Elemental damage} does not mean to Everything? It seems a lot more general than Attacks OR Spells? At least from what I saw people say that is what it means.. There is nothing to believe it doesnt work.. but we would have to have a way to check if EE is procing and i dont know how to do that

Also why would Palsteron say otherwise in his video? Someone should go on his twitch and ask him to verify

Did a quick check.

Elemental Equilibrium: "Adds Elemental Damage"

It appears that "Adds # to # Cold Damage" alone from Blizzard Crown is enough to trigger EE.

PS: I didn't take into account polaric devastation's "covered in ash" as a factor here, but since it affects all damage given that everything ignites, it should apply to all test conditions and wouldn't affect the results here.

Thanks for helping us figure this out once and for all! :) So the helm is all we need to proc EE to make them weak to fire
