After crashing can't close the program even through task manager.

im have the same problem and im unable to restart my computer without hard rebooting. this is a really annoying issue and i hope they hotfix it soon.
Same issue for me. First crash happen when I enter act9. Then it happens several times in next hour.
I'm also having this issue. I am using windowed mode too.

only fix for me has been restarting pc
As someone posted above: playing it on Directx11 and windowed mode prevented, at least for me, from that crash.

I tried first Vulkan + Windowed and got crashed anyway. Then I tried Directx11 + Windowed and now its fine. Not sure about Directx11 + Fullscreen or Borderless.

I was using Vulkan (beta) + borderless when I was getting crashed.

Try it out.

Same problem.

This has been the worst launch in terms of performance I've played.
Constant disconnects I changed servers to one I thought would be less populated and it seemed to help at least I don't crash on every town.

But the process freezing is a serious issue and I can't know for sure but I think the freezing it's not a server issue. Restarting or turning off the computer from windows starts an infinite loop of windows trying to end the process. The only thing that helps is turning off the computer manually. And I just got a message from the Bios scanning the state of the Disk probably caused by the sudden shutdowns. This is not safe.

I'm using:

GG Launcher no steam.
Windows mode
Vulcan api
Dynamic Culling
Dynamic Resolution

8GB ram
nvidia 1060gtx 3GB driver v.460.79

Hope something can be done about this.
Julus said that this could be a steam or windows problem but why did it not happened on previous patches if so? :(

Please don't take my answers to be 100% precise, even though I spend some time to research the problem. My main area of expertise is Linux OS and I apply that knowledge for Windows as well. While in general both OS works in the same way, the way how they handle some things can be quite different and I can be wrong.

But, I stand by that it is parent responsibility to reap the dead application. If it still lingers, there is something wrong. Aside of steam/windows, it can be issue if there is some crash monitor application which attaches itself to crashing application in order to extract data. I don't know if GGG has some crash reporting application which would do that (in such case it would be fault of that one), or if there are any other application which can result in this behavior (googling reveals Malwarebytes can sometimes do it). Also, there was windows update this week (KB4598242) which seems to broke something in my windows as I have graphical glitches in Windows after that update (windowed apps using GPU are flickering/showing app underneath, occurs only when I am using both my monitors). I tried to reproduce the crash running game in windowed (both dx/vulkan) mode, but so far no luck, so can't say if that windows update is responsible for any issues in game (but I'll keep trying :)

Also it does not help that some reports in this thread reports different kind of crashes which does not help to find out the issue at all.
Same issue here. Have been playing a few last leagues on same PC/System, issue appeared only with current update.
I have the same issue. I have tried everything and can't play the game.

It was more than fine on launch day but after the update I just can't play, game is always crashing.
