[3.14] Odif's Old Obsolete Skel Mage Guide, New one is in a new thread

Hi, y’all.

Been playing this build for a while. Doing mostly yellow maps now, and it’s all good with 6L Femurs and Ambu’s for body armor. No worries at all—and I am not even very good at the game! Thanks, Odif!

Anyhow, just made it through my last set of ascension points and picked up Bone Armor as advised. Not sure how to use it, though. It shares a cooldown with Immortal Call, which I have on auto with CWDT. But it can’t just slot it in to replace Immortal Call since it doesn’t come from a gem. How should I manage the new guard skill? Please help this somewhat clueless noob.

Just dont use immortal call. You dont need cwdt setup at all. If you have enough armor, use Vaal Molten Shell, the vaal version of skill can be used together with Bone Armor.

Would this be of use to our build?

I'd like to say this build is simply fantastic for its simplicity and how strong it is with minimal investment. I will probably use this as next league started. Thanks Odif for a great build guide.

I finally killed Sirus for the first time and I'm running through t14-t16 maps pretty steadily. I still have some gear to improve, using a Vict Charity shield since leveling. Using all found gear except purchased Breathstealer gloves which really made the build come alive, especially in Ultimatums. Next purchases will be some minus ele rings (running 2 found phys rings which are useless I realized, lol) and maybe a lvl 21 vaal skelly since all my attempts have failed hard.

For anyone looking for a great simple build guide that can do a lot with minimal investment, this is it. I see this stated a lot on build guides, but I've got a lot seasons and tried tons of builds that are either too squishy or too weak for my general terrible game play and limited time to do everything with.

This is my current gear, nothing special but i can run T16 Ultimatums quite safe. I made some minor modifications to get more toughness, and included a ring with Elemental Weakness un hit.

I have some money to improve the items, what do you think?

I've tried many other builds but I always go back to this one, using the femurs 6 linked setup this build does tier 14-16 maps no problem, I've done Sirus A6 with only 1 death (though I found a jewel with corrupting blood cannot be inflicted on you). This build is great. Not sure where else I can take it though, I found an Empower level 4, wondering if I can swap it into the skeleton links for more damage.

My 2 c from this league run:

Last league I did skelli mages in SSF and it was great

This league I started SSF with skellies/zombies but never got the dead reckoning, however I found out that using melee zombies/skellies on the same 6 link is just as good and even better

The zombies r always up and help clearing with their area slams and u pop skellies for the extra DPS when needed.

Managed to take SSF this league even more by doing uber elder and Katarina deathless, managed to do Sirus9 and also the hard maven boss invitations.

Hi, I've got a question. I'm thinking about buying an amulet +1 to intelligence skill gems with +1 skeletons, but the prices seem to be all over the place. How much is reasonable(if the other stats are negligible)? The cheapest I've seen was for 3ex.

Also, how big a boost is such an amulet?

The boost is HUGE!!!!!
When I got mine it was not only my eleventh skeleton, it was level 25 on the skeleton jewel which gave me 12 skeletons.
It was also level 25 on my zombies giving me 10.
It was also level 25 for my specters giving me 4.
It is the best purchase you can make along with a skeleton helmet with +2 minion.
Just get the cheapest one with the stats you can use, mine even had a little life for 4ex.

I am chasing a skeleton chest and may put those boots on for the 14th.

EDIT: I gave up on immortal call as soon as I saw it interfere with bone armor. I use Voidsphere ever since it came out, it is EXTREMELY good for getting away from damage. The convocation is the best CWDT I have ever seen though!

Dont buy it. Unless you are able to afford some good one, like mine


All these selling for cheap are just failed attempts to create a good one, so for the same price you can just try your own luck - you are looking for a free prefix or life roll.

Just buy awakened orb, elder amulet with +1 skeleton (like 5c), and hunter base you want with correct itemlevel (20c). The roll +1 int on amulet with alts. You can sell +1 dex if you get it sooner. The make you amulet with awaken orb.
If suffixes sucks, reroll with keep prefix harvest craft till you have something decent.
