[3.16] Caustic Arrow/Death's Oath Occultist [Life based Chaos Autobomber]

Sorry to ask but can someone look at my POB and tell me where I should invest the 3-4ex I have saved up so far? I'm getting to the point I always do (this is my second league) - I get to maps, save a little bit of money, blow it all on upgrades that do not have a really big impact and then have a fairly weak character and get frustrated and re-roll again.

I'm currently able to do tier 5 maps comfortably (I mean, Kind of, I just put on the new crown and magic ring, need to find more chaos resist again) - I just don't know where to go currently I'm level 74 - I know I need more levels, but would like to try to plan out WHERE to go from here....

On the tree probably go towards picking charisma and leadership because aura nodes boost death's aura.

Purchase wise you need better belt, drop quill rain (it's really useless for caustic arrow, only good for toxic rain), get a +2 or +3 bow (few pages ago there was a post about budget bows, base costs ~20c for a 6-link atm and essence or fossil craft it) and a lvl 21 caustic arrow gem (~15c atm). Gloves could also be upgraded.

Anoint the amulet, corruption is cheap oil-wise.

If you have problem with chaos resist, you can invest into cluster jewels, you can have a suffix on cluster that gives +resist of any kind to cap it easier, and you can get student of decay passive on a medium cluster to cap chaos res easier (and it's probably cheaper than the "top level" medium clusters).

Whoa... Just replacing the bow just about doubled my tooltip DPS on Caustic arrow...

I know this isn't the best one still have room to make it better, but it was a big damage boost on my char.. now I need to find another green link to add


Empower is really expensive right now.

I also got a level 21 caustic arrow and started leveling another 6 of them in my offhand to hopefully get one to 20% quality also.

Corruption linked now on the amulet.


Now to find a better set of gloves and boots! Thank you again. Just tested a tier 8 map and it was easy, once I find more life and a good cluster jewel (going for single setup) it will be much better I think in a few levels

Get Lifetap as last link, it will help with the mana. Efficacy is also an option for more damage, if you can sustain the mana.
When you get both Charisma and Leadership (and drop Vitality+Clarity) you can get another aura (Skittebots) for even better damage.

The one without Cluster Jewel is good but damage to the bosses are bad,

The one with one Cluster is fine, damage to the bosses are fine but your character will pop out of nowhere, you die alot. the bow doesn't even exist on the trade this is how bad things are this league.

The one with Two Cluster is so expensive that is not buildable. but i guess it kills you even more since monsters have speed of light and attack speed of gods.

Guess it's not the problem with the build but how pathetic the state of the game is right now. expensive/useless.


Edit: Threw aways that usless Aspect of the Spider gloves and got one with better evasion and cap resistances, Threw aways Flesh and Stone since it does nothing and most of the deaths happens two screens aways even after patch. Got Grace/Dispare/Malevolence setup instead of F&S and Spider. can survive alot more.

You were searching wrong then, because I had a discussion about buying bows 2 weeks ago and they definitely existed. It was in essence drain thread but the bow is exactly the same. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2581551/page/738

The same bow is used for essence drain, toxic rain, bane, caustic arrow, etc., it's a fairly meta craft with a wide market, you just clicked wrong mod on the dropdown probably. Most likely "chaos damage over time multiplier" instead of "chaos damage over time multiplier (crafted)".

About the cluster complaint, you can swap the "best" notable for "usable, but not best" and the price of that cluster is 1/5th of the "best" one. Yes it will be less damage, but it's a good middle ground if you can't afford the 5ex clusters. You can drop misery everlasting on the large cluster for unwaveringly evil or if you have aspect of the spider, even touch of cruelty (needs source of hinder). Same with medium clusters, brush with death + flow of life are expensive, but pick 2 random chaos damage notables which work and it's immediately much cheaper.

Also if you specced malediction, are you running second curse in your setup? You could use temp chains or enfeeble as a defensive curse.

The bows are abundant (and were there since the end of the first week) or can be easily crafted

Single cluster, if you look at the perfect cluster, is even more expensive that dual cluster (medium with Flow of life+Brush with death is 7-8ex)
With dual cluster you can mix and match Flow and Brush with different notables and get it significantly much cheaper.
You also get more regular jewel sockets and can use life+res to help cap res, or whatever else you need.

You have 4.3k life and only a single Brush with death, so your recovery is limited, and no wonder you complain about lots of deaths.

Flesh and stone gives you 11% less damage taken from enemies not nearby (including off-screen) and huge avoidance bonus when they are near you.
Spider is both offensive and defensive and has lower reservation than other auras, so you can fit 4 aura.
But, whatever works for you.

You didn't go for Forbidden Taste, which is the best survivability upgrade this league

This build got hit very mildly this league, and frankly can still do anything it could previously. There is nothing sad about the state of the game ;)

Hi Everyone,

I'm just a casual POE player in the process of re-speccing from a Skelly Necro to this build, everything is going well so far following the no Cluster POB and having an almost BIS Bow it was not so expensive. (around 12 EX no 21/awakaned gems)

I just wanted to confirm something with you I'm having a terrible time maxing out any resistances with 2 magic rings, being the most worrying chaos resistance.

But then I saw on the POB for 3.15 that none of the trees have capped resistances, being chaos around 30%.

Does this mean it's ok to run without capped resistances? Is there some mod or defense layer I'm missing?

I do have Arakaali and Shakari and plan to put Aspect on gloves but still all the build guides I followed in the last 3 years say it's oh so important to be capped.

Please shed a light on this casual, thank you in advance!
