Today we're looking at how many challenges have been completed in the Metamorph challenge league by player percentages, and how Ascendancy class usage has panned out across the various league types and platforms. First of all, let's take a look at the Metamorph challenges.

The graph below shows what percentage of players have how many challenges and only includes accounts that have completed at least one challenge.

  • 24.14% of players have completed 12 challenges and earned the Metamorph Footprints Effect.
  • 5.82% of players have completed 24 challenges and earned the Metamorph Weapon Effect.
  • 1.32% of players have completed 36 challenges and earned the Metamorph Portal Effect.

Notably, challenge completion is up across the board at all significant points. After a similar amount of time during the Blight League, 20% of players had completed 12 challenges, 4.8% of players had completed 24 challenges and 0.65% of players had completed 36 challenges. Are the challenges easier than usual or are the rewards more desirable? Let us know!

Now, let's take a look at all characters in Metamorph leagues on PC. The following Ascendancy class stats were taken during the week of January 20th - January 24th. This is slightly later than usual, so we'd expect more ascended characters than typically seen.

All levels, All Metamorph Leagues (PC)
Witch13.77%
Necromancer10.86%
Ranger9.06%
Shadow7.88%
Duelist5.88%
Marauder5.29%
Templar4.85%
Saboteur3.60%
Assassin3.56%
Deadeye3.54%
Trickster2.89%
Elementalist2.87%
Slayer2.63%
Scion2.61%
Guardian2.47%
Pathfinder2.35%
Gladiator2.28%
Occultist2.05%
Hierophant1.82%
Juggernaut1.81%
Raider1.58%
Chieftain1.53%
Champion1.33%
Ascendant1.25%
Berserker1.23%
Inquisitor0.99%

Surprisingly, even though this dataset was taken 5 weeks into the league, we see unascended Witches as the most common class. It's not much more common than during Blight though, which suggests that ascendancy class choice is slightly more varied. Necromancer is seeing the most play of any Ascendancy class here by quite a bit. As with Blight league, Witches and Necromancers remain very popular when looking at the total population.

Level 70+, Metamorph Standard and Hardcore (PC)
Necromancer22.62%
Assassin7.53%
Saboteur7.45%
Deadeye6.28%
Slayer5.51%
Trickster5.49%
Guardian5.39%
Elementalist5.28%
Gladiator4.51%
Pathfinder4.03%
Occultist3.97%
Hierophant3.57%
Juggernaut3.32%
Raider3.05%
Chieftain2.71%
Berserker2.44%
Champion2.41%
Ascendant2.33%
Inquisitor1.56%
Witch0.25%
Duelist0.07%
Ranger0.06%
Shadow0.06%
Templar0.06%
Marauder0.03%
Scion0.02%

When we start to look at players that have made it to maps, we see that Necromancer is taking over more of the total population. It is less popular than during Blight league (where it took up 36% of players in this bracket), but is still by far the most popular ascendancy class. The recently revamped Assassin is still enjoying its time in the spotlight. Otherwise, there's a reasonable balance among most other ascendancy classes (with a few outliers seeing little play).

Level 90+, Metamorph Standard and Hardcore (PC)
Necromancer24.27%
Assassin9.74%
Saboteur8.78%
Slayer6.26%
Trickster5.67%
Gladiator5.14%
Deadeye4.98%
Occultist4.70%
Guardian4.41%
Pathfinder3.69%
Hierophant3.32%
Elementalist3.27%
Juggernaut3.19%
Champion2.94%
Raider2.72%
Chieftain2.09%
Berserker1.95%
Ascendant1.77%
Inquisitor1.10%

Narrowing down to level 90+ characters, we'd expect to see more of the survivable ascendancies rising up to the top. What we see in reality is further separation of the top three ascendancies from the rest. Deadeye is less popular in this bracket than when it included characters between level 70 and 89 as it is a very offensively-focussed ascendancy class. One of the ascendancies known for surviving, Juggernaut, sees roughly the same amount of representation here.

Level 90+, Metamorph HC (PC)
Necromancer29.23%
Juggernaut10.78%
Guardian10.22%
Champion8.10%
Saboteur6.00%
Gladiator5.93%
Trickster5.67%
Occultist4.85%
Chieftain4.12%
Assassin2.87%
Hierophant2.45%
Elementalist1.75%
Pathfinder1.67%
Slayer1.37%
Ascendant1.32%
Inquisitor1.12%
Raider1.06%
Deadeye0.90%
Berserker0.57%
Witch0.01%
Marauder0.01%

If we then take a look at just Hardcore characters, we see a very different picture. Necromancer remains at the top, but Juggernaut, Guardian and Champion all take large leaps. Juggernaut became more than three times as popular, Guardian more than twice as popular, and Champion just less than three times as popular. Looking back at Blight statistics, the top few ascendancy classes remain popular, proving their worth against tough Metamorph bosses, so if you're looking for new build ideas and don't want to die, take note!

Level 90+, Metamorph SSF (PC)
Necromancer35.38%
Saboteur9.76%
Trickster7.58%
Gladiator6.55%
Champion6.13%
Occultist5.62%

Pathfinder2.41%
Slayer2.16%
Hierophant1.93%

Inquisitor1.60%
Deadeye1.43%
Berserker1.00%
Ascendant0.87%
Witch0.01%
Ranger0.01%
Marauder0.01%

Taking a look at SSF leagues, Necromancers reign supreme. Getting a minion build up and running comes with relative ease, making Necromancers a very comfortable and reliable choice when you aren't able to trade for key items that some other ascendancies may require. Notably, Assassin takes a large fall (down from over 9%) as does Slayer (down from over 6%) compared to non-SSF leagues.

Level 70+, Metamorph (Xbox One)

Ranger0.22%
Marauder0.14%
Shadow0.13%
Duelist0.09%
Templar0.07%
Scion0.06%

With console realms, it's always interesting to compare them to one another. First, as this is solely a Standard Metamorph breakdown, we see many of the less survivable ascendancies, such as Deadeye and Elementalist, at the top of the charts. There is a fairly even balance of Ascendancy use among most classes, with the Necromancer reigning supreme here as well.

Level 70+, Metamorph (PS4)
Necromancer21.80%
Elementalist7.78%
Slayer7.45%
Deadeye7.14%
Trickster6.22%
Assassin5.94%
Saboteur5.40%
Hierophant4.48%
Occultist4.33%
Gladiator4.10%
Juggernaut3.99%
Pathfinder3.69%
Chieftain3.52%
Berserker2.60%

Guardian2.01%
Inquisitor1.92%
Champion1.86%

Witch0.62%
Ranger0.26%
Duelist0.14%
Shadow0.13%
Templar0.10%
Marauder0.10%
Scion0.05%

Interesting, Slayer is the third most popular ascendancy on PS4 compared to sixth most popular on Xbox. Otherwise, the top six ascendancy classes on both consoles are the same, with slightly different values for each. At the bottom, the three least-played ascendancy classes are seeing slightly less play than on Xbox.

It's certainly interesting to see how the metagame evolves each league, especially under different conditions and on different platforms. Hopefully you've enjoyed this snapshot of the Metamorph leagues!

Challenges are a fair bit easier than usual this time around. I haven't actively pursued them (yet) and i got 30. Usually without actively going out of my way for them i'm sitting at ~21-25. I like it though. Makes me actually consider going for 36 this time around.
maybe it's time to add one additional reward for 40 challenges?. And challenges until 36 were easier than previous leagues(and less rng based thanks to god)

Ever since the league started, the game was balanced in a way in which minions has been the most predominant build... I hope it changes for next league...
curious, how many of those non-ascended players are bots? do u have some approximate percentage?
when my challenge is bug on baran . 37/40 . i felt to quit on the league bcoz of the bug challenge that cant complete .

one more thing the rewards on challenge now is very awful .
just my opinion btw nc league .
