Speaking of saving currency... How viable is this as a league starter?

I know there is the other version in which we can transition into this, so I guess my question is should you go for the basic version and transition into this as a league starter? Is that viable?

Or should you just be rolling some generic safe build for the first week and then outright buy your way into this build?

Personally I do the budget version first and transform into this. You can easily sell the 6-link Quill Rain (or even use 5-link until you can craft the ultimate bow) and other items are either same or very inexpensive or natural stepping stones to final versions.

I made test in other thread, but this is MY personal opinion, so its up to you:
"
I've tested it up to lvl 40 (a5) and can make my own conclusion.
So i leveled to a3 library with Storm Brand and than i take Quill Rain assuming i could afford it on league start at this point or little bit later.
I've used on start:
HoG - Minion Dmg - Dmg on full life - lesser poison - Vic proj
RoA - Poison - Faster attacks (until lvl 38 curse on hit)

Personally im not recommending going so early this build w/o links and gems you need. The reasons:
- Vile toxin you can buy only at act 6 or ask some ppl to buy it in act 4
- Dont switch before Normal lab (profane bloom)
- Dont switch before curse on hit setup! Blasphemy takes alot of mana and manual cursing is meh.
You will go x3 slower compare to SB setup. So if nothing gonna changed i will complete story line with SB occultist leveling my HoA gems setup on swap and than after kitava and taby prob gonna switch or even later.

As alternative im also looking into necromancer Solar guards. Its overall should be faster (faster than SB mappers). We can spam convocation alot freaquently because necro already have -50% CD to convocation, so overall it will be less than 2 seconds. And we can use IIQ gear compare to this build wich is huge for mapping. The only downside is less EHP and need to resummon if specters dies. But im playing SC so not a big deal.

Link broken in new PoB update, there is more reduced mana reserved from charisma node and near it.
You can see this in past pob build
New PoB cut some passives from build cuz tree change. Old was something like this https://pastebin.com/qmf12Epf but now there is no enough points
We can drop some ES nodes or one jewel solt to take charisma

Since Bane now exists, is there potential in moving the curse on hit setup off the Rain of Arrows and cursing manually through that instead?

If we moved Bane and the 3 curses into a 4 link, we could run a map clearing AoE focused poison generator instead - either a properly supported physical spell like Ethereal Knives or Bladefall. Alternatively we could go for poison application with Volkuurs Grip or perhaps something like chaos conversion with Voltaxic Rift?

This is a really strong build, but it excels at bossing - I'd like to see if anyone's thought about boosting its trash clear along these lines. There's defensive benefits as well, as we could take advantage of all the new Energy Shield spell leech.

Just taking the original PoB from gjmine09's first post, changing the tree to the latest PoB geared towards Spark and swapping in a Voltaxic Rift gives me https://pastebin.com/W1e1fT3R. That's 126k DPS on Spark before the gem buffs have been enabled in PoB and the Crawler DPS is still at 2.7m. From what I remember of Spark, that's decent clear speed DPS for it - and there's more to come from changing the gearing (it's all unchanged from the original build), gem changes being implemented (eg, Spell Echo to the new support that casts x6) and probably further refinement.

The build doesn't need to worry about hit chance any longer, has a more concentrated skill tree - and picks up lots of ES leech. The current PoB indicates something like 1.8k ES leeched per second. On top of the regen and Occ recharge.

I think there's potential here - and while Spark might not be the answer, I think taking this build onto a spell casting basis this league could be really promising?

I'm loving the concept, since I miss my old Poison Sparker from Perandus. I think this has a lot of potential, One concern is adding a bit of clunkyness to the build, now requiring another skill/cast. But that's just me being lazy.

The other concern is mana use. A well linked Spark (or any self-cast spell) can seriously chew through mana quickly when compared to a lvl 1 attack skill. With your PoB, you are using around 300 mana/sec, while having all but a sliver reserved.

Yeah, I'm sure the tree will need a bit more tweaking - I've just noticed that I didn't take Arcane Will on the one above for a start. That alone is huge in 3.6 - it now provides 20% inc max mana, 2 mana regen/s, 20% mana from flasks and importantly 4% max mana as extra ES. The later makes it vital for ES builds from what I can see.

Gearing would be very different as well - we'd be looking for mana and cast speed instead of what's in the PoB for a start. But the aura's would need to be revisited as well - there's some potential for the new Malevolence with the skill effect duration (helps spark) and damage over time (helps poison and Bane). From what I gather, PoB isn't calculating mana reservation correctly at the moment, so it's a bit hard to figure out what the best approach would be. Plus eg, Malevolence isn't in there yet and I don't think we even know it's % reservation.
i'm probably going to just level up a occultist till maps, then switch to a currency farm build in order to start saving up for the items. I'm assuming it's gonna take a week or 2 before all the bad boy items are on market/being able to afford them. Then it's just getting the gear piece by piece until i am equipped enough to start BOB'in. just gotta find a decent farm build for now.
