{3.10} Speaker for the Dead | The Mass Minion Summoner | League Starter, Leveling Guide 💀
Hi,
First of all thanks for this great in-depth guide!
I just wanted to share my 2 cents here. I followed the 3.8 guide as far is could and it is not that much off from all these changes. I managed to kill the Awakener at awakening level 8 without much of a problem.
At the moment i have 5.3k life and w/ spirit offering in a cwdt setup i get to 4k ES. There are still sometimes oneshots from Metamorphs but I guess every build stuggles a bit with them sometimes.
Spoiler
That is my gear at the moment. There is still room for min/max but i managed to kill every endgame content with it in its current state.
Soo after struggling quite a lot with damage with all the changes after the beginning of the league I decided to follow the build once again, this time trying the Triad Grip variant. I got to level 92 (a bit of a wall here, perhaps due to my current gear or maybe this variant is just that much less tanky) and now I have a few questions about the build.
1. Is 4-white sockets Triad Grip of any use in this build. I corrupted a pair lying around and was wondering if it's worth to do something about them.
2. I have noticed that despite going for more damage-oriented variant of the build and even having spectre damage enchantment my spectres are struggling with clear and my zombies have to help with more than rares. Whether it's caused by a lower number of spectres or the changes to monsters or maybe even movement speed nerfs, I cannot tell. Is there another spectre other than Frost Sentinels with similar clear capacities I could try?
2.5 If the lack of clear is at least partially caused by the lower number of spectres then what are my option of bringing up the level of the gem to 25? I have managed to get to 24 (21+2 from necro +1 from Bones of Ullr) and was wondering where to get the last one. I have seen that there are amulets with +1 to int gems, any other options?
3. Do I understand correctly that now it is possible to have double influences on the item? I do not know how exactly it works, but would that mean that there is a possibility of having a 9-link zombies setup with Shaper + Elder influence? I assume something like that would be the ultimate end game option for the build if actually possible.
2.5 If the lack of clear is at least partially caused by the lower number of spectres then what are my option of bringing up the level of the gem to 25? With a L21 gem, we'd need another +2 levels to gain back our fourth Spectre. That could come from a L3 Empower, +2 Minion Wand, +1 boots with +1 chest corruption, or moving them to a +2 helm. I don't feel it's especially worth it, unless you want to drop Phantasms in favor of focusing on Spectres (like Slave Drivers).
(that was written before we got the new influence mods info, so there's also the +1 to int gems amulet from hunter influence as an option)
So if you already have the +1 boots, your best options are probably a +1 int gems amulet or +1 socketed gems chest corruption. Or a wand with +1 or 2 to minion or int gems, if you're willing to switch to one.
3. Do I understand correctly that now it is possible to have double influences on the item? I do not know how exactly it works, but would that mean that there is a possibility of having a 9-link zombies setup with Shaper + Elder influence? I think it may have to be conqueror influence + elder or shaper influence? I'm not sure if the awakener's orb can add elder to shaper, or vice versa. But yes, you can have double influenced items now - you need an awakener's orb (from fighting Sirus), the item you're adding influence to (which must already have influence), and another item of the same type (belt, body armor, etc.) with the type of influence you want to add. Use the orb on the second item, then the first item; you'll lose the orb and the second item, and you'll get the first item with two influence types & mods rerolled. (After that you can chaos/fossils/high essences to reroll while keeping the influence, as usual.)
Absolutely, I would love to do some comparison tests, record videos, and keep it equipped on a character for display for the guide. However, are you sure? I imagine the Maim mace will retain a nice value on Standard going forward.
Yeah, I actually made a second mace near the end of the league. But I don't really care that much about my gear in standard since I can just buy it again if I need it.
Eye of Malice helm has a lot of potential with Cold Triad Grip. It increases resistances of nearby enemies, which includes negative resists. -50% EE, -10% Cold Exposure, -29% L5 Frostbite on Hit, -24% L5 Ele Weakness on Hit = -113% * 1.5 = -170% Cold Resistance.
Arakaali's Fang is ~twice as powerful as Zombies in an Influenced 1H weapon, so that's always an option if you don't mind dealing with worm flasks.
I hadn't seen that helm yet, definitely a cool one. I assume at some point you'll compare the damage of this vs a rare with minion damage and + levels? I'd be interested to see that at some point.
Have you read anywhere about the exposure of the helm? Elemental Army is -10% but the other 3 gem sources are -25%.
I assume Arakali's Fang loses a lot of power with Triad Grip so it wouldn't be using while I have them on?
Here's a bonus question. One of the new bosses has a disgusting chaos DoT that one shots me if it touches me. This is at 37% chaos res with a flask. I'm only at 4.3k life but I think even with an extra thousand or something it will still kill me with how quickly it drops. Outside of anointing Cleansed Thoughts, do you have any other ways of reducing the incoming chaos damage?
For anyone looking for a cheap weapon to use while you focus on your other gear, incursion weapons are super common right now and you can get Citaqualotl's Sceptres for 1-2c. Search for One-handed melee weapons with Minions deal 70% increased damage and also 1 empty suffix since that will let you craft on minion attack & cast speed.
Anyone using Triad Grip with 4 green sockets may be interested to know that rings dropping from The Redeemer can drop with % Increased Minion Damage as well as curse enemies with Frostbite on hit Minion Damage is a Prefix while Frostbite is a suffix so it would be possible to alt spam and then multimod to get this combo reliably.
There's a huge pool of new mods and I haven't really looked at them so if there's any others that would be strong with this build I'd love to know about them.
I can also craft "Gain (7-8%) of maximum life as extra maximum energy shield" on chest armors as a prefix so if anyone needs this done, send me a whisper in game @IWasStrongerInBlight the craft costs 2 alch and then 2 alch and 1 scour if you want it recrafted. It's only the middle tier craft as I still need to get more body armors from Gravicious to unlock 9-10%
Just on the end of this post as well, I did another upgrade on my gear to get into a good position for when I add a hungry loop with animate guardian. I haven't really looked into Catalysts yet, but I had a couple of "Intrinsic Catalyst" in my stash. These enhance any attribute modifiers on jewelry which makes it much easier to gain the dexterity we need from only 1 item.
Spoiler
Just had my first attempt at the Awakener (Wasn't expecting it to be at level 84, I thought it would be lower level like Red Elder or something) and he kicked my ass. I did at most 2/3 of his hp before I ran out of portals I did forget to resummon my zombies after a couple of the deaths so maybe I could have done a bit more damage but I don't think it would have mattered.
I went in blind and most of my gems are only 18/20 at best (not counting the +2 from ascendancy) but the fight felt somewhat manageable. There were a couple of parts where all my minions died but I think that's avoidable with Meat shield on spectres + zombies & just playing better/knowing the fight. Honestly the damage in my set up felt good enough that I think with a slight upgrade and 20/20 or better gems the fight will actually be pretty easy.
"
I don't really care that much about my gear in standard
Okay, cool. I'll add you ingame next time I'm able to play PoE and we'll go from there. (Currently out of town.)
"
compare the damage of this [Eye of Malice] vs a rare with minion damage and + levels?
My biggest concern with EoM is during clear, where we won't always be applying EE and curses.
Going from 2x to 2.5x damage = 25% more damage, at most. Factor in boss curse effect and resists that cancel out EE, and it drops. +3 Minion Damage will hands-down be better for Skeletons. To avoid a loss, you'd need to relocate Skeletons to your weapon or chest.
Although Cold Triad isn't ideal for Spiders (Chaos Triad would make full use of their poison), they still deal a lot of damage, in exchange for the trouble of maintaining them.
Fully committing to Zombies, we can reach 500k each x11, plus Slam (Feeding Frenzy and L4 Empower in a claw with +1, +2 Supports, Maim, Ele Damage with Attacks, and Faster Attacks) = 5.5M total.
Fully committing to Spiders, you can reach 432k each x20 (Minion Damage, Melee Phys Damage, Damage on Full Life) = 8.6M total.
If you instead use Melee Splash for Spiders and don't gem swap for bosses, they'll deal 283k each, or 5.7M total. So pretty close to Zombies, who have a natural Slam for AOE clear.
If you used Zombies instead of Melee Splash, then Zombies would contribute another 204k each x9 = 1.8M. Together you'd get 7.5M total.
Even without its poison, a Spider is almost equal to a Zombie, but we get twice as many.

other ways of reducing the incoming chaos damage?
Which boss? A map boss, or the Hunter conquorer? If it's Al-Hezmin giving you trouble, take a look at my reply @ xaeror35. The biggest danger from him is his ridiculous poison damage, which can be countered.
For general Chaos Damage and Chaos Degens, resists are always your best bet, followed by regen.
The Cleansed Thoughts anoint is functionally worth ~38% Chaos Resistance (or a bit more if you overcap to compensate against a Despair curse and such).
Pantheon - Arakaali: 5% reduced Damage taken from Damage Over Time, +25% Chaos Resistance against Damage Over Time.
Pantheon - Shakari: 5% reduced Chaos Damage taken, 25% reduced Chaos Damage over Time taken while on Caustic Ground (trigger with Desecrate?), Immune to Poison.
Item crafts for reduced damage or Chaos Resistance.
Solaris Lorica chest: 25% reduced Chaos Damage taken over time, Chaos Damage does not bypass Energy Shield.
Esh's Visage shield: Chaos Damage does not bypass Energy Shield while not on Low Life or Low Mana. Meaning you'd have to drop an aura to keep 36% of your mana unreserved.
Corrupted Energy jewel: With 5 Corrupted Items Equipped: 50% of Chaos Damage does not bypass Energy Shield, and 50% of Physical Damage bypasses Energy Shield.

A nice idea for our amulet.

Once past the learning pains, it looks to be a pretty mechanical fight.
A Corrupting Blood immunity jewel may be helpful, but we also have Bone Armour.
Losing Spectres and Zombies to the storms should be fine when we have unlimited Skeletons. Otherwise, Meat Shield Support would be the ticket, such as when using the Jinxed Juju amulet.
"
In other words, it would contribute -14% Cold Resistance to bosses, or 11% more damage.
So Eye of Malice not worth it then. I was hoping the exposure would be at least 25 but it's the same as Elemental Army
"

Interesting. I might give this a try at some point with Arakali's Fang being fairly cheap right now.

other ways of reducing the incoming chaos damage?
Which boss? A map boss, or the Hunter conquorer?
I think it must have been the snakes in an Al-Hezmin map & then the middle area of his boss fight the first time I fought him.
Since I've been using an Amethyst flask with Arakaali & Shakiri upgraded I haven't had any trouble with chaos damage.
"

Bone Armor has good enough uptime that I haven't had an issue with bleed while playing this build.
"

Yep, I've gotten a lot stronger since I first attempted it & even at higher levels spectres and zombies are staying alive a lot longer now but even when most of them are dead skeletons are strong enough to easily take down Sirus. I haven't played recently but I should be at Awakening 8 in 1 or 2 days.
Feel free to use any of the videos I post & speaking of videos here's a couple of guardian maps & shaper as well. I was going a little slower than normal because I didn't want an embarrassing death. I run the metamorph encounters with the toughest options too. I did reroll the maps a few times to avoid nasty mods.
Shaper Apparently his HP got buffed from 20 million to 68 million, so it's now about 1 old Shaper per phase. Again, another death that shouldn't have happened, but I'm tired & I was watching the balls in the top right.
I ran normal Atziri earlier on in the league when I had garbage gear. But here's a normal Atziri run with my current gear https://streamable.com/y3azs
I haven't done an Uber Atziri in a long time so here's one to compare against a regular Atziri with the same items https://streamable.com/mzwch
My Gear used in these videos
Leo slammed my old chest for Tier 2 cold res and thought I might be lucky enough that I'd get a good double corrupt in the temple. Instead it got deleted so I'm using a 5 link while I decide if this will be my final chest or if I want to try craft a better one.
I now have the Tier 3 craft for % Maximum Life gained as extra Maximum Energy Shield which is giving me an extra 907 energy shield. By far the best chest craft for this build.
Animate Guardian Hungry Loop is almost up and running to replace my left ring slot. Still deciding on the gloves to use with it. I really want to try the new intimidate on hit gloves with a curse on hit but they're 30+c just for the base then I'd need to roll the mod and hit the curse corrupt.
Compared to last league, you can definitely notice the buffs to monsters at higher tiers. I met my match with a Metamorph in a Courthouse map that had twinned boss so I think I had 3 or 4 unique organs in it which 1 shot me & killed all my minions, even the frost sentinels. It took a good couple of minutes for my minions to finish him off.
The loss of minion speed is noticeable while mapping but usually not a big deal. I don't even have an Unending Hunger at the moment & similar gear to what I'm using shouldn't take more than 5 or 6ex (with the 5 link) Faster Projectiles is nice for clear and you can tell if you take it out, but if you don't mind going slower then a 5 link is more than good enough.
I still haven't beat The Awakener, I died to the storms on my first attempt but got him quite low & he bugged out on me during my second attempt. From those fights I can already tell he'll be a piece of cake when the bugs are fixed and I've learnt the fight better. His damage is quite low so you can take a couple of hits & the skeletons melt him fairly quickly. Uber Elder will still be the toughest boss IMO.
The build is still fantastic in 3.9 & will do all the content the game has to offer (Haven't tried a 5 way timeless conflict with it before) on a pretty good budget.
I really want to try the new intimidate on hit gloves with a curse on hit [for Animate Guardian]
Yeah, those should be great!
"
Haven't tried a 5 way timeless conflict with it before
Monoliths are the one event where this build struggles to some degree, due to the precious few seconds being eaten up by the delay for Skeletons to be summoned and then engage, along with the uneven nature of our composite AOE.
The Conflicts are a bit better, but still similar, since you want to rotate as much as possible. Now that GGG has implemented a diminishing reward system, it shouldn't feel quite as bad to not be a top-performing Legion build with a Headhunter.
"
[gear]
Were you using Avatar of Fire? I noticed your weapon added cold damage.
"

Pre summoning Vaal Skeletons seems to do pretty well & on a decent layout I can still full clear the monolith but it's a lot more awkward than some of the other builds I've played.
"

I'll probably try and get around to running a couple of them this league if I get bored of the other content.

That's it from me, Happy New Year everyone!
We're all about cold damage with the triad grip setup so 4 white doesn't do anything for us at the moment (Who knows, Hercanic might make something up with it) but they're pretty expensive now so selling them and buying some luxury gear is probably your best bet.
The minion speed changes & -1 spectre slowed down clear a bit but I haven't had that much trouble with it even in tier 16.
You can get +1 level to Spell Skill Gems on some weapons as well & +1 int gems is also a delve suffix on body armor.
I haven't tried Awakener's Orbs myself, but the wording makes it sound possible. However actually hitting all 6 supports would be so incredibly difficult that it wouldn't be worth aiming for unless you have unlimited currency.
CwC + Ball Lightning and CwDT + Desecrate + Spirit Offering
changed to
CwC + Desecrate + Spirit Offering
Dropped life nodes and Wicked Ward to get Necromantic Aegis
Yep, that's about right.
Eventually you'll want to get a helmet with minion damage as a prefix and then you can use melee physical damage as well for even more damage.
Empower isn't very good on zombies if you're not trying to push them to level 30 so you can swap that for more damage, meat shield, elemental army or feeding frenzy
You can keep Carrion Golem in if you have a way or applying elemental equilibrium (lightning or fire damage to attacks or Avatar of fire and cold damage) but if you don't then you will want to use something like storm brand.
You can link skitterbots and bonechill in your boots and put hatred + generosity in the other 2 sockets for more damage and keep using CWDT for spirit offering for a little bit extra damage but using CwC Spirit offering is more defensive.
I don't know if you do some kind of gear review, but I just started playing again (in standard this time) and it seems that my current gear is quite different from what you're suggesting in the guide.
I got this gear by following the guide in Blight, so maybe you've changed something, but I feel a little bit lost on what to update to maximize it.

Can someone help with this?
First thing first : you have cold damage on your weapon and on one of your rings, this means your Elemental Equilibrium is fucked up when you hit in melee, thus increasing cold resistance by +50% instead of lowering it by -25%.
Gloves : Switch sockets of Enhance and Desecrate, cast when damage taken procs the spells socketed in the order they are socketed in, from top left to bottom left. Here you proc spirit offering then desecrate, meaning your offering could miss corpses to be casted, or extra corpses for extra energy shield and duration.
Chest : Swap out Elemental Proliferation for Elemental Army or Controlled Destruction.
Try to get one with 200+ ES, big chunk of life, and one open prefix to get the enchant "gain 10% of maximum life as extra maximum extra energy shield" => 200 ES chest = 650+ ES chest, at low cost!
Weapon: look for something close to yours, but with +1 to level of socketed gems. Belt : Get a Stygian Vise (with 3 res ?), extra socket = extra stats ! Rings : You can get a "Frostbite curse on hit" one, for more cold damage output. Amulet : Look for life/ES/%max ES, maybe an anointing enchantments with Oils.
Hope I'm not telling horse shit. I'm new to this build (so wait and read the other guys, like Dashbb & Hercanic) but I read a lot and i'm trying to make it work on my side, upgrading my stuff slowly as the currencies drop. Next step of my plans : a nice helm, the unending hunger jewel, a discipline watcher's eye, then the Whispers of Doom anointment to get elemental weakness on a second ring...
I've seen this helmet... kinky stuff.
