I can't test just yet as the other spectre gem I'm leveling is still level 17, but I'm pretty sure I got my 4th spectre when my gem was level 19 (I had taken unholy strength first when leveling).

@FutureFear can you post a screenshot of your spectre gem tooltip (hovering the gem) so we can try to see what's going on?

I got 4 spectre at gem lv17 (using +2 helmet) so i dont think we have a bug here
How will slave drivers work for this build?

Anyone done uber elder, yet? Because he is kicking my ass.

Just did it, although I'm level 95 so it's a bit easier obviously. However I'm using Cyclone + CWC + Desecrate + Spirit Offering in the boots instead of the traditional Ball Lightning or SRS alternative with a CWDT + Desecreate + Spirit Offering.

This gives a lot more survivability (when I started using it, it was giving me 1200 ES about every 0.8-1s, now it's 1400 with more life). In such a fight you will be circling the boss you want to kill most of the time so it's not a problem applying EE (you just need lightning to attacks somewhere on gear) and getting the frenzy charges for your minions; I recommend getting Fortify boots first (preferably with decent movement speed) so you do not lose that.

Edit: to be noted that using this setup also grants you guaranteed permanent uptime of Spirit Offering on your minions, heal their ES as well, and as you can level Spirit Offering more you get more % phys added as extra chaos for your minions, so it's not exclusively more survivability for you (yet lower clear than using CWC SRS).

You can look within the last 5-6 pages I think people were talking about it, but essentially it seems to work well (Slave Drivers are OP :p), and comes down to:

  • switch to wrath instead of hatred
  • switch to another spell to apply EE, or take a point in Avatar of Fire
  • change the spectres link (at least replacing GMP with Spell Echo)
  • go full spectre, i.e. remove the Summon Phantasm support

maybe not but i just hit lvl 20 on my spectre gem, i have Unnatural Strength to get me to lvl 22 and I have Death Attunement for + 1 to maximum number of spectres and I still only get three spectres. i tried moving the spectre gem to my +2 helm. it takes the gem to lvl 24 but still only gives three spectres.

if anyone is the curious sort, please feel free to look over my tree and gear and lmk if I'm doing something dumb to keep me at three.

It's not like I'm struggling with "just" three. I get a minute or so into a map and realize, "Holy crap, they're all dead."

Just a masterful job putting this build together Herc. I've spent many a month suffering in this game and now I'm getting some payback. Thank you very much.

It's very odd. Looked earlier already and could not see anything that would prevent you from having 4. Are you sure the tooltip on the gem does not say 4 now? You obviously need to summon the 4th once the gem allowing (seems silly, but sometimes it's silly things like that we miss ;) ) scratch that: considering you tried in the +2 helmet, you necessarily had to.

Note that the gem will only show however many spectres you have from the gem level (after gem level adjustments from stuff like the ascendancy). It won't include stuff like +1 spectres from gear or the passive tree; that only shows on the actual skill tooltip. That might be the issue here? Unless you've actually tried summoning a fourth spectre and saw it kill off an older one.

Indeed you're right (I've thus given wrong advice on what to look at earlier, my bad), I was pretty sure the gem tooltip would show 4 as well, but it's only in the skill tooltip on the skillbar that it show 4. So that's the place you have to check Sorator13.

what do you mean by switching to another spell to apply EE?

Considering your spectres will do lightning damage if you use Slave Drivers, you don't want to be dealing lightning damage yourself, so you cannot use ball lightning, unless you put a point in avatar of fire (in which case your ball lightning will do fire damage).

With slave drivers you'll want to do either cold or fire damage yourself to enemies so they get vulnerable to lightning for your spectres to deal increased damage (and your other minions as they'll be buffed by wrath).
