I can't really say anything. I know nothing of the Taiwan poe player base. However, it's possible you are witnessing a more celibate community which in turn may seem more competitive in a general sense. This was the case with the other mergers. Bigger fish became diminutive rather quick.

Amateur vs professional sports. There is division to facilitate competition among the talented and/or experienced.
