Standard HLD PvP Elephant (in the room)

There's been considerable mention of "broken builds" and exploiting the current patch meta; however, many of these "broken" and "exploitative" builds are based upon specific gear and items.

Access to gear/items, or the lack thereof, is perhaps the single biggest obstacle in building a diverse and inclusive HLD PvP community in Standard League.

First, legacy items...

I advocate eliminating all legacy items. Granted, I've heard that there are game-mechanic issues with removing ALL legacy items and until that changes, legacy items remain a principle gate-keeper to top tier PvP.

Secondly, in conjunction with legacy items, is currency...

Currency (access) grants access to items. For example, no matter how baddassly clever I am using a 300pdps 1h sword on a melee build, the PvP'er using a 400pdps 1h sword with a similar build is going to triumph, even if his/her build is sub-standard.

Thirdly, build-guides... still tied to legacy items and currency.

There's a reason a vast majority of the PvP build guide reveals are written by Tear Won'ies - it's because it's unlikely many in the PvP community can actually replicate the build given the item requirements to truly make it OP.

Then again, there's the other elephant: RMT.

ok
"You have great power. You're right to be proud. It's unfortunate you have to die now, but I will honor you with 45% of my strength."
- If people farm their ass off to get a mirrored item, it s their right and I find it nice. you should not be jelly of someone playing the game like it is intended. Same with legacies.

I am all for balance of skills and introduction of counter for broken items. I think something like talismans/frost bomb is a better idea than taking items off the map.

-If we talk about prizes and seasons, I am all for premade instead.
competition should be fair, so premade with imposed gear is the best idea.

So all we have to do is remove items, currency and build guides.

Don't forget removal of movement, it's overly abused.

Today I lost to some guy with a level 100 character. WTF. Just because his character is 30 levels higher than mine doesn't mean he should win automatically. I bet I would have destroyed him if we had the exact same stats because I'm better than him. I advocate we remove levels from the game so that people don't have to spend several years making one character than can PvP. Totally unfair and ruins the spirit of player versus player content because he wins by default because he spent more time and effort making a build than I did.
I blame my inability to articulate an argument...

The Standard League (I'm purposely making the distinction for legacy items) HLD PvP portion of Path of Exile will never be remotely balanced or inclusive as long as legacy items remain in play and crafting currency scarcity exists. Unless this changes, items will always remain a primary gatekeeper to Standard HLD PvP.

Only meaningful legacy items are rumi, vinktar and aegis. If those are dealt with somehow there really is almost nothing else to separate the temp and std leagues.

I feel like every single point you made in this post is either completely wrong or close to irrelevant

Fair enough.

But declaring them "wrong" and "irrelevant" doesn't make them so.
