[2.6] Flash Freeze Ice Shot Ranger
Is Fang of frost in passive tree not worth getting?

" I highly recommend you to try it, it features a full dps calculation from passive tree, skill gems and equipment, you can add uniques or even create custom rare items with properties, or if you already have a character you want to improve you can import it in the software with all your gear, just compare it with the tooltip damage you have ingame to see how accurate it is. It even shows the damage calculations from a single part of the skill, for example with ice shot, you can see the damage from the arrow hit and the damage from the cone, separately. I'm in no way affiliated with the creator of the program, but the ability to switch gem, passives and items on the fly and see actual dps and damage numbers have saved me countless hours and trouble and i recommend it without any second thought :) |

" First thing that caught my eye was Point Blank. This node is hard to use and even with a totem build if you totems are too close they will die quite easily and if they are too far the damage falloff is very short. If you removed that and didn't mind losing the little evasion jewel socket circle next to it, up by Acrobatics is a projectile damage jewel socket. I also had a look at the Celerity circle and had to wonder if that would be worth the points but without playing the build I couldn't say for sure. Aside from that, it looks like a fun build to play around with, especially if you had reverse knockback which would make Point Blank very nice to have if your totems could survive the enemies.
" I saw that node while I was making the tree but trying to find points to fit it in there is difficult. I can't take any life nodes out and if I removed too much crit chance it may not freeze enough. I will keep it in mind when I go to test it but that could take a few days to get a build up there in Legacy league. The non Frenzy charge tree could probably do it without much loss but I will wait until the patch rolls out before making any further changes.
" Since the build has to travel up to the duelist area for leech, for 4 points it's probably better than taking the Forces of Nature cluster left of Acrobatics since we'll be doing cold damage anyway Last edited by Vapordrago88 on Mar 2, 2017, 2:39:09 PM

" Can't forget that even with 40% of phys to cold on the tree, Blast Rain converts 50% to fire wich still benefits from Force of Nature. Though I do wish the convert nodes were 25% each and Ice Shot did 50% and not 60% so that Blast Rain could be full elemental too.
Yeah you might be right about point blank. That one is def a 'maybe'. I guess that goes for celerity as well.
I feel i should have mentioned my gear intentions right away. I posed my question a bit too hastily. Anyway, you have the tree (www.poeurl.com/6bZ) Gear is as follows: Weapon: Death's Opus Quiver: Skirmish Helm: Rat's nest/Devotos Devotion Armor: Queen of the forest/Kintsugi/Rare chest Queen of the forest is basically the reason behind the "celerity" cluster Amulet: Pandemonium (not entirely sure which would be best here) Boots: Seven league step/rare/Atziri's Rare rings Jewel: splinter(?) + rare I would use Hrimburn for more phys to cold conversion. This + ice shot + passives should net me about 96% conversion to cold. Then with all the passives, cold pen gem, frostbite, pandemonius and frost bomb(for bosses) i should whip out a whopping ~~135% cold pen. Opus + splinter + Skirmish with add. arrow + asc will give me a total of 7 projs from each totem, thats without lmp/gmp.. might even drop splinter and just be happy with 5. To top it all off i aim to have frenzy/faster attacks/pcoc/inc.crit/inc.critdmg/cold pen in the weapon for chargegeneration and to add a bit dmg on singletarget. I think that's about what i have right now =) |

" Ice Shot will have 60% conversion and with the two nodes on the tree it has 100% conversion. Cold Pen seems redundant but might work well as a gem swap for bosses, same for frostbite but you give up Assassins mark mark which would help totems gain better crit chance. Pandemonius is really bad and it's stupid that GGG made the upgrade worse than its downgraded item.
" I have to get a source on this but iirc the ice shot converts first at full value(60%) and then the items/passives convert the remaining phys damage. Meaning they convert 90% (hrim 50, passives 40) of the remaining 40. So if we had 100 phys dmg, ice shot would convert it to 60cold 40phys, and hrim + passives would make it 60cold + 36cold + 4phys = 96 cold + 4 phys. Assassins mark isn't really necessary since I will keep at max frenzy/power charges though my gems in my main weap(Frenzy+Pcoc) Yeah im not entirely sure what is best when it comes to halcyon and pandemonius. I mean, halcyon wins in general, but if you are doing stuff like izaro then pandemonius starts shining(assuming i cant permafreeze him) Last edited by Sixtyeight on Mar 2, 2017, 4:09:28 PM

For the conversion I was not sure as well. Consulted the wiki but it didn't solve anything.
Tried it in Path of Building: Ice Shot 40% + 2 * 20% from clusters = 80% cold damage (The old value for ice shot is still in use with only 40% conversion) This would mean we don't need any additional conversion from items! |
