I discuss and show items and tactics all the time with players I meet. I'm at 3rd place in the open pvp ladder now and I don't see anything harmful in sharing your ideas with other players. It can only make it better. A PvP channel in chat would be amazing for players to discuss and share ideas. It would also help to get matchups.
PvP right now is only suffering from a low participation. In my experience people like it when it goes well and quit when it goes bad so I do all I can to share information and encourage new players to stick to it, because you get better. Itemization is important to a point. First of all you need to figure out how to avoid stun. Stun desync's you and also makes you unable to act. The same goes for freeze. You can solve those two issues in different ways and it should not be too difficult to figure out how. Once you have figured out the above you need to over cap resists and stack as much life/energy shield as you can. All spell casters use elemental penetration so increasing max resists will help as well. Then, I would say to get high damage hits. Many small hits usually don't work that well. The most popular skills are flameblast, explosive arrow, cyclone, lightning ball (gets the highest lightning penetration with the right gear), Puncture and poison arrow. Each skill requires a different play style and this only comes through experience. Defenses has to be taken care of next, much more so than in PvE. The most popular one is Mind over Matter, I find, and there after block, evasion and dodge. There won't be too much time to build up Endurance charges so that defense can be skipped. Armor probably isn't that useful either as the characters who deals physical damage usually deal a lot of damage per hit. Lastly, you need to experiment with flasks. I have 4 life flasks and 1 mana flask. I have 2 flasks that stop burning, 1 flask that stops bleeding. I've got 1 panicked divine flask and 1 sapping eternal flask. The panicked is used only on low life and the sapping is used when I have time to heal up. This works for me but might not work for others as it depends on play style. In any case, you do need to be able to remove bleeding and preferable burning as well. Then just get good at using your flasks so you don't waste them unnecessarily. For the spirit of the thread, I post my gear here below:

" Thank you. We need more people in the pvp community like you. Lightning ball is good in HLD? Interesting. Formerly Firebrand

" My pleasure. Lightning ball is indeed very good in HLD. Agnerod North makes it even better. You can get very high damage per hit while also hitting often. I don't know if people use added chaos or other added flat damage to increase the minimum damage. | |
" Yeah it is, used it since it came out vs some builds. It's very slow though so vs most opponents it's a bit meh but if you know how to use it, it's quite effective in some matchups It's hard to remember what you have forgotten

Why would you need to see others gear when you already know what it is? It's easy..Poison Arrow, Explosive Arrow, or Flamebast Burn. There you go I just solved the mystery for 95% of all players at the top of the ladders (HLD anyways). These are all SOOOOO OP it's just plain ridiculous.
