Well, thanks for the explanation, that was very much needed. Again, the vast majority of it makes a lot more sense in hindsight. I might rewatch that movie at some point. Maybe.
By far the weirdest coincidence regarding the Revue Starlight movie
I used be part of my school's theatre group back then. So certain things the giraffe said there, the audience demanding a continuation, the next stage arriving without fail and most of all the joy and sparkle, the brightness of the stage... Wakarimasu. And in a much more literal sense than most who watch it.
Wakarimasu.

I enjoyed Eureka Seven a lot. It's been a couple of years since I've seen it, but it was great. I once read somewhere that it is what some refer to as a post-eva mech series, which apparently shows quite heavily in cast of characters. It's well worth the wait imo. An amazing show. And don't even get me started on that killer soundtrack.

Was planning to watch Bubble today. Don't have that big of a screen, but it has served me well so far. My headset does have some great audio though, so at least I got that going. And considering that Bubble has a Sawano soundtrack, I regard that as rather important.

Edit: I just watched Bubble. If I had a nickel for every gorgeous anime movie set in Tokio that involves a water and weather based supernatural occurance that's centered on a girl that involves the city getting flooded, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. Beautiful visuals, amazing sound. Those parkour sequences were just breathtaking, you can definitely see what WIT have learned in all those years of Attack on Titan 3D ODM animating. Story was alright, albeit rather predictable at times. And for some reason there appeared to be some almost eldritch horror themes that went absolutely nowhere? I can only imagine what this could've been like (story wise) as a full on 24 episode series.

Finished Dennoh Coil. Okay, that's one to rewatch a year or so from now to really get it.

Tried to rewatch Shirobako to bone up for the movie, but of course the crunchyroll/funimation merger removed it from Australian streaming. I hate Sony.

Started Rolling Girls instead. WTF is this even. It's like Mob x Comiket or something. Anyway, only 12 eps so it won't take too long.

...Inching closer and closer to a One Piece curation. The quality jump this past year has been astounding, and of course Sakugabooru blog predicted it after seeing the genius young director of the incredible DBSuper finale was being brought in to handle One Piece. We sucked it up for Naruto, we can do the same for One Piece. Finally.

Finished Rolling Girls. I repeat: wtf was that. Put it on the same shelf as, say, Deca-Dence, Appare Ranman, Mob Psycho, and Idaten: hyper stylish, sakuga-laden self-contained madness that pretty much makes sense, if you let it. Also, more than a SLIGHT Gintama influence throughout.

Not sure what's next. Finally sucked it up and bought Fate/Extra on bluray, since the Netflix release will never be the much-improved BD version (sasuga Shaft). Grabbed both Camelot movies while I was at it. Just for the collection, and because Camelot 2 demands nothing less.

So interesting anime-related titbit I guess. I always knew that the 'bad' robot in RoboCop was deeply inspired by the Glaug from Macross (let's not open that can of worms) and that RoboCop himself was inspired by the works of Sorayama Hajime, but what I didn't know was that an earlier Paul Verhoeven work, the massive, muddy, medieval flop Flesh+Blood (and yes, of course I love it), directly inspired one of the biggest manga of the past half-century: Miura's Berserk.

It's interesting to me how things interplayed like that in the 80s.

So, there's a new trailer out for Made in Abyss Season 2. First off, if you haven't seen it yet, go watch the "Dawn of the deep soul" movie. It's a direct continuation from the first season. It's a really important part of the story.

Now then, about season 2... it looks amazing. I mean, yeah, Made in Abyss always did, but still. Soundtrack should be Penkin again, so that's another win in my book. I really hope they manage to cover this upcoming arc in it's entirety. I really want to see what is likely to be one of the most powerful beings in the entire abyss in action.
And good lord does this arc contain some action for the "embodiment of value" towards the end.

So Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei finally came out in the West. 12 episodes, quite a tidy affair.

Now if you know anything about the series, you will know the fan-translators worked their butts off trying to get all the references in, translate all the puns, the gags on the chalkboard...all that. We wondered how Nozomi were going to officially handle it.

Turns out, they decided, fuck it, let's just do this:

Spoiler

That book is 329 pages, full colour, explaining every single pun, reference, gag, pop culture nod...everything. It's fucking amazing. And it came free with the season (which wasn't cheap, but not too expensive either).

I think this might be the single most impressive piece of anime localisation I've ever seen.

For the low, low price of a handful of top tier Path of Exile supporter packs, this too could be YOURS!

So the Bastard remake/update is right around the corner. I finally caught the JP PV Netflix Japan put out. Definitely not sold on the voice for DS but I think the original is a very hard act to follow. That aside, it'll have what it needs: good music, great supporting cast, adequate-to-occasionally-good studio, and 24 episodes rather than 6.

I'm about 60% hyped. It won't be a Fate Apocrypha level event, but it'll probably be less demanding of our forgiveness as Record of Ragnarok was. Both had absolutely stunning casts, but only Apoc had animation worthy of them. If Bastard is comparable to LIDENFILMS' other recent remake, Blade of the Immortal, I'll be a happy camper.

I will expect an ober the top action flick and hopefully decent animation, I do remember some missteps of the concerned studio in the past. with a shudder.

also honzuki foray into bodice ripper story territory had me laughing half the episode. I get that its a josei but come on^^
