Ice Shot
Concentrate area of effect seems to reduce the area size but the damage doesn't seem to increase, i suppose the cone isn't area damage, right?
well the feel the skill has (arrow+cone) is easily a 9.5/10 but the ground ice is kinda meh
It isn't, but it should be. Fixed for a future patch. The arrow itself deals non-area damage, but the fully converted cone of damage is area damage (now).
Thanks for the catch. Last edited by Mark_GGG on Sep 16, 2012, 11:15:13 PM

There's something with the particle effect of this that causes a pause/fps drop on my machine. I'm not using shadows and medium textures. It doesn't happen until it hits the target.
I'm curious, as I have a very elemental heavy bow, if my bow does a lot of fire, cold and lightning damage, but does little physical damage, does the cone do all of those damages (with physical converted to cold) or does it simply do physical converted to cold alone, or possibly physical converted to cold + cold?
It didn't seem like it was doing all of the damages combined, but I knew little of the skill when I was playing with it, so I didn't know what to look for, didn't even realize there was a cone (oops!). Thanks Mark for your answers, you make stat nerds like me very happy. :) How Fusings Work: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/38585/page/3#p1451934

It deals all your weapon damage, with the extra modifier that converts all your physical to cold.

Hm, is the cone aoe damage affected by point blank in any way? Lightning arrow's secondary target's aren't if I remember right so I assume it is the case for this as well?
| |
Converts all Physical to cold? Probably not right?
Anyways, here is my extended feedback: I started a Bow Shadow relying entirely on Ice Shot for crowd control purposes and I am still wondering wether this skill is at a good spot. So I do have some questions: Does the cone resulting from a hit, damage the target that causes the cone to happen as well? If so Concentrated Effect should have a major impact on dps, yet it does not seem to be so. If not, the cone would only be noticeable in situations where mobs gather very close to each other due to the small range of the cone. I would also gladly take a hit in the skill's stats if the base mana cost was reduced. If you want to 5 Link it you are actually forced to go for Soul Siphon or any other high mana sustain. You cannot simply spam it ;) E.g. one could reduce the projectile speed which would also create the feeling of having a slowing mass of ice crawling towards the enemies. Regarding the ground ice: It's pupose is clear: It should slow those enemies coming at you even further. I hope its area of effect will be impacted by increased area passives. Besides that i think its a lovely gimmick, powerful against e.g. masses of apes coming towards you! Overall great skill and I am curious wether using it as maina attack will be vaible late game! I believe it might be an utility-only skill and not offer enough DPS to be viable! Last edited by C4ph on Sep 19, 2012, 5:53:10 AM

" Hi Mark, Question: -What about critical chance/strike? What does this two mods have an affect on the ice-cone? -also i assume the mana leech have no effect on the ice-cone? re-edit again -the skill could benefit by making the cone-angle a bit more wider. re-edit Feedback: BTW, at point-blank range, when one attack a target, sometimes the ice-cone have an "unintended" reverse/90deg off-angle to the direction of the projectile when it impact. Same as the bug where the arrow shooting backwards. I think a fix is needed for this bug. Perm. Retired from this unforgiving land of the Exiles. Self-impost EXILED. Is the cone portion of the skill affected by "increases elemental weapon damage"?
| |
So, one thing I thought might make this skill more useful for crowd control is to have the arrow>cone transition work more like Poison arrow. In that you didn't have to hit an enemy to cause the explosion and could thus force the leading mob to run through the entire ice patch rather than the 1/2 or so that it would pass through otherwise.
Discuss! |
