Is there anyone who completely dislikes the Temple mechanic ?

I like the idea of building up my own little place to do now and then and eventually get to try out new bosses.
But after my board got wiped for a third time and i feelt very confused to why did so much get deleted? Was it becuase i failed to kill the chamber boss once? Did i die to many times to the random rooms? Did i do them in the wrong order? Are there some hidden wrong ways you need to walk/place/interact with things like in Baldursgate 1 and 2 where i need to light the right colours / kill mobs in a specific order to progress without getting nuked? I dont know, i still think the place is cool, but it currently feels like the only place i will need follow some sort of guide if i want to have a look at it again so i dont nuke my progression. But for now, i think i will leave that to last to re-visit in 0.5. If i even do go there again with so much other stuff to have a look at with 0.5 Then again as with most things, with 0.5 being so big and focused on rewamping/balancing end-game im sure so changes will be there also to read about in the patch-notes when they drop :) (ill keep the copium going hard until 1.0 and leet them cook) Cant have to much Junk in your Stash

I liked the overall idea conceptually, being able to build it out how you wanted and over the course of the season, getting a nice payoff for the work done when you finally got it near maxed out. Obviously, the level of reward you got was way out of line and I'm not sad to see the snaking go. It made everything else in the game irrelevant which was bad.
However, as with everything else gambling related in this game like crafting, I utterly despise the random slot machine lotto aspects. Gee I hope I finally get that one room I wanted this time in the deck of 6, 'hope I get lucky'...gee I hope that one or however many rooms I worked to build dont get nuked in the destabilization this time, hope I get 'lucky'. Gee I hope I get 'lucky' and get enough locks this run. They could so easily make it deterministic and stable and just tweak what it takes to build it, what level of items or currency it will drop and so forth. It does not need to act as yet another shitty ass gambling mechanism. You could have quests or boss fights gating access certain room types, and require different currencies or unique drops to access and build each room type. Think you need to control how often people can fight Atziri? Fine put a god damn timer on it so you can only kill her once a day or whatever. If that's going to make streamers or hard core players cry, fine, put in some sort of cost that requires time commitment, but not this repeated crystal farming/praying you get the right rooms/praying you get enough locks/praying you dont lose the wrong rooms/repeating the cycle X number of times till you get 'lucky' and it all works out. It is NOT fun to see my construction blown up from dumb random chance. Looks like they made some good changes for temple in 0.5, but keeping the gambling/randomness in it just sucks to see. I, too, dislike it. It's just such an uninspired mechanic. An overly convoluted setup, which ends up feeling very samey when activated.
It's good that they've fixed the snaking, but I'd prefer more of an overhaul. Smaller temples, more deterministic, a greater variety of events, and a quicker cycle. That being said, if enough players enjoy it, so be it. I'm happy just to ignore it. |

I hate temple & expedition big time hate extreme hate lol. but good news thou got to keep a positive mindset on this. with the atlas content being direct path location now, you can literally skip all other content in the game now.
i just wish they did it like poe 1 where you can select turning off those mechanics. Last edited by Heroxsolbadguy#5368 on May 16, 2026, 12:24:27 PM

I'm in the same boat as Oink. I uninstalled ~4 days into 0.4. I was most looking forward to a reworked endgame, which we still aren't getting with 0.5, but I lasted 4 days trying to get into Temple. The more I learned the more I hated wasting my holiday time on this game.
Temple needs to be reworked from scratch, much like the endgame, and should be removed until then. Nobody would play this mechanic if it rewarded effort the same as any other endgame mechanic. That's how you know it is bad. Last edited by FruitLord#0833 on May 16, 2026, 1:06:45 PM

The temple is the funniest thing in the game, where for the first week people complained that it was useless and the rewards from it were worse than anywhere else, and after two weeks people started saying that the temple has so many rewards that nothing can compare to it, lol

" yeah they dont know how to balance things. its either too much or too little. no middle ground |

Since the 0.4 reveal i thought the mechanic was unintuitive, but i never interacted with temple THAT much tbh
It was boring (more than expedition) for me and took too long, and the rewards (robotic limbs?) never really picked my interest since you lose it after dying |

" I literally hate the temple the way it is and I also will most likely not like the temple the way its gonna be, simply cause of this reason... " The most frustration for me is to play a whole league and only getting once to atziri cause the rooms don't let me connect paths to them, the planner don't give me straight or paths i can rotate and mostly only getting shitty rooms I literally cannot use since they would block the way I want to go... Besides it was a great help for getting early on some extra currency in the first playthrough it was just a mess and freaking sh**. BUT " This sentence makes literally no sense. Quitting a game cause of a mechanic in it, is wild. |
