Is there anyone who completely dislikes the Temple mechanic ?
|
I'm a working player who never got a single Divine Orb from the Temple. You know the type – during the first week of the league, before anyone had figured out the Temple layout, I just brainlessly farmed it like many others. I did normal mapping and tried to build my Temple toward the Queen's room on the opposite side. But because I never understood the room collapse mechanic, I never made it to the Queen's room even once, and never dropped a single Divine Orb, until I eventually quit the league. Then the economy crashed, and I never logged back in.
My frustration with the Temple mechanic is this: the design feels overly rigid and "smart" in a narrow way. If you don't build the Temple exactly as the designer intended – following a very specific, hidden path – your reward is literally zero. Factor in the time you spent, and your net gain becomes negative. Then, once someone finally figured out that narrow intended way and built the Temple "correctly", the economy immediately went bankrupt – turning from America into Zimbabwe overnight. So why didn't I just "if you can't beat them, join them"? Because I have plenty of other good games to play. Last bumped on May 17, 2026, 3:18:13 PM

They are fixing the "snake" temple or whatever it was.
Coming from a neutral perspective of someone who has played both games for a while. It's extremely unintuitive as a mechanic, too many things to place / learn etc. While I'm sure some people might enjoy it, I will never do it. It's probably the most convoluted mechanic in both games (Yes, even worse than betrayal from Poe - 1) Just going to be a skip mechanic for me forever, unless they make it legible without reading a 300 page guide on how to play it. The running through / back and forth/ checkpoints etc is extremely boring as well. I know people loved it because you could farm 300 div/hour, but I highly doubt anyone will play it compared to maps etc if it isn't insanely broken. Pure skip. |

" In the nicest way possible no disrespect kind of response - the game has multiple league mechanics and not every one of them will be a fan fav - If you dont enjoy it then dont do it and play a different league mechanic. its all about having fun, it may not be "balanced" perfectly yet but it seems like every league mechanic will offer some sort of reward that will be valuable to almost every player so less chance of FOMO. |

" Totally agree. This mechanic completely goes against what an ARPG loot grinder should be. First, the system shouldn't be so convoluted that the average player can't understand it without a guide. Second, the insane rewards don't come from killing monsters or dropping loot – they come entirely from exploiting the temple layout itself. That's not loot grinding, that's puzzle abuse. |
|
" If the Temple gives 100 times more rewards than any other league mechanic, can you really stay calm and just pretend everyone else is crazy while you're the only one walking away? |

Yes, temple is bad.
I mean it is bad even as a concept. While it sounds great om paper that you can build your own layouts, in reality these are just same small 2x2 arenas with same enemies all over the place. It is just boring to run. |

I did not play last league because of the temple mechanic. Made it to 19 then quit due to disinterest.
Did the game need an out-of-map, convoluted mechanic before it is more fleshed-out and launch ready? I didn't think so. Now, they are adding Runic Ward - a new defensive mechanic - when current defenses are in a terrible state and poorly balanced. They are adding Runic Skills when current classes need 1.5-2x more skills baseline. Current GGG leadership appears entirely preoccupied with adding wild new things. And do not seem to consider what is sorely needed to flesh out the base game. The endgame rework is an exception, of course. |

i quit the league 3 weeks in because of temple. it was an untested rubbish mechanic that instantly got exploited. then GGG couldn't really fix it properly because the usual suspects would cry about mid league nerfs so they let it go on and ruin the league for a lot of us. why release something that is not tested?
anyway i hope they fixed it now. it was not healthy how much currency it gave. made mapping completely irrelevant. why run maps when you can get 100 times more from the stupid mini game? |

Temple was awful. I started the league late, after they had already tried to patch out the snaking and taken that patch back for the league due to the flood of tears.
As someone who played PoE1 for years and always dreamed of getting better currency drops, running someone else's snaked temple and seeing how clearly broken it was was disgusting. Just running through once was more currency than I'd seen in a decade of the series. It was clearly broken, and so many people couldn't wait to exploit that. I had no interest in it, and think they're going to have fun going back to a normal level of drops after months of that. Playing the temple normally was fun at first. With nothing teaching you how to build rooms to actually progress beyond seeing where the rooms you have can fit in, it was mostly blind fumbling. I made it to the architect and beat him, but only once. After that once every time I used my available rooms it just quickly built to 3 dead ends. It often wouldn't let me place the rooms I had available anywhere, so they were just wasted. That's dog shit game play. It's another gambling mechanic. Why does everything GGG introduces have to be based on gambling? The design was awful. Clearly we can see the reason so many rooms don't attach to one another was to prevent the snaking insane currency and exp that people managed to exploit them into anyway, but not being able to add hallways to rooms that are placed is just senseless. |

Temple goes against everything of what an arpg should be.
The excessive rewards it provide is disgusting. It's boring as hell and doing anything else in the game feels pointless because the ROI from temple is simply vastly superior. The main reasons I deleted the game was because of Temple, Movement speed nerf and the butchering of itemization. ![]() |
