Why are Cold spells so BAD?

Tbh i`m kinda surprised cold spells have such negative feedback. Thought fire is the black sheep here.

There are ways to make any spell build viable for fast end game clearing. Fire benefits the most from the BM crit increase, and blackflame with chaos damage nodes can give it some extra kick.

People talk about using snakepit on frostbolt, but I think it's even better on fireball.

I pretty much always run caster, in .4 I've run BM, Stormweaver, and Invoker all through to 98-100. Fireball+Arc, Ice Nova, and Reap. None of them had any issues with any content in the game, other than the insane scaling difficulty abyss over run maps that can wreck pretty much anyone.

It's fun af to use snakepit+dominus to make spells like Fireball chain multiple times and stack on multi proj so you have 20+ fireballs some casts all chaining and hunting enemies down.

It's also fun af to use Ice Nova with a beefed up AoE radius and Trampletoe and see everything everywhere explode into icey meat chunks.

What is it you think you're missing out on? I'll never understand the mindset that if something isn't the absolute fastest moving highest damage dealing build possible it must be trash.

In a vacuum, correct. In poe, here come the trash party loot and resell spam trade systems... I'd gladly play skills I like aesthetically without care for clear speed, but here if you cannot keep up with economy, your progression is stalled. Maybe you'll get an upgrade in a week. Or three. If you grind every day.

SSF is not the solution, first you're cut from party with friends, second, the loot is still shit. And you can forget gaining specific build-enabling uniques.

I don't care if someone else using something else has a minute faster clear speed. Comparison is the thief of joy. I try to play games to have fun playing a game, not to obsessive compulsively hoard game currency for some reason.

If you can advice such "all content" build for a cold caster, I'd be grateful to see it. And hope it won't be another crit BM swapped to cold damage. No one in this thread spoke about absolute best except you. Straightforward use of cold spells with cold damage with a sorc with self-cast is not just "slightly below the best", it sucks.

Leopold's, Permafrost, cold pen on jewels, AoE, siphon elements, use ice Nova and the cold aura and spell from the staff. You could go BM for the crit, elementalist for the chill and shock, informed for the easy spirit.

What about single target? Ice nova is infusion-only
