Knight is not flexible because its tied with implied chivalry, assuming some ascendancy classes will be similar with poe1 , gladiator would no longer fit

Something more neutral like swordsman, man-at-arms, blade master could work

Skirmisher is pretty much a synonym to Duelist.

The name of Duelist / Gladiator (whatever they go with) is tied to the background lore of the character who fought in the arenas of Theopolis. You cant just change the name to knight, it wouldnt make any sense. Hes not supposed to be a professional soldier, that archetype is filled by the MERCENARY class!
The knightly virtues like chivalry also dont fit the personality of the duelist at all which is supposed to be more flamboyant and cocky.

Please put more thought to your ideas before posting them.

Agreed, and updated OP to Gladiator class.

Think I found a good name.
A totally real word that means swordsman/duelist/hired killer and would be perfect as the name for a class or ascendancy.

When you go to https://pathofexile2.com/early-access and scroll down to the 8 classes and hover with the mouse over them you will see that the Shadow is called The Assassin now and the Duelist is The Gladiator. I guess they have made their choice to the naming already.
