Strange moral messaging...

You should give Clair Obscur a shot. I've been playing RPGs since Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System and it's easily one of the best games I can remember. Even if I am ass at parrying.

I digress but I d argue that writing has gone down the shitter in the majority of games nowadays. And I doubt it has to do with me growing older in real life. I play modern games, but occasionally revisit old ones too. The difference is striking in the writing department.

At this point, I, non-ironically, would prefer they let some LLM do the writing. I m most certain it d do a better job.

I generally blame political correctness and an unwillingness to take any narrative risks for the limited, stale, anodyne narratives we get in most games nowadays. Feels like HR is hovering over the writer's shoulders with every sentence needing pre approval... and that is all you'll get with LLM writing, so please dear god no, don't go that route.

Not entirely sure that's the case here though. I think it's just bad writing where little thought was given to the value of logical consistency and good storytelling.

It's such a shame that they had a blank slate and simply returned to same tired themes (if there can even be said to be any actual themes in this game's story) and ARPG settings that we've seen so many times before. And since they're treating the story and dialogue that way, why wouldn't we expect everything else related to the game will just be lazy rehash as well.

Agree with the guy who said check out Expedition 33. Not sure I'd say it's among the best stories ever told or that it has some deep meaning, but it was just so so refreshing to see a such novel world and strange but intricately crafted storyline even if its totally fanciful. Wonderful worldbuilding, characters and dialogue.

Hope some companies take note...but more likely some VC firm will just buy out that studio and turn it to garbage. Not sure we'll ever get another game with writing the quality of Mass Effect 1/2... or Dragon Age Origins.

In the spirit of not being totally negative anyway. I really enjoyed the Witch character banter, whoever did that did a good job.
Iv had similar thoughts as OP like wtf even is this story finding it funny yet intriguing not entirely bad but i wonder if sin is going to be a big boss late in the story or endgame finally acknowledging hes a badguy or if thats just going to be ignored which would be sad and imo bad writing.

yep, people responsible for the lore are sick.
all voices are muted now in poe 2.
insufferable.

could add that the church dudes are ofc an evil cult in this game.
sad to see this game going this route.
