Old man yells at cloud. Bosses edition

It's also a bit too much to expect Tolkien, Dune or any serious D&D campaign tier lore in a fast paced ARPG like this.

I still get great vibs, just as i did the first time when we got the lab, and this sophisticated fellow is dropping knowledge bombs and poems on me and as i rubberbanded back into traps and loose 2 Hc characters!

Aaaaa good times good times!

I always expect us to someday go deeper into the central chambers of Itzaros crazy Cube! Expecting his true body to be there like the Architect of the Matrix.

Could listen to his voicelines for days!
Cant have to much Junk in your Stash
Outside of the uber fights which I don't think are that great, I think I can appreciate most of the old and the new.

I do remember the first-time fighting Piety and thinking WTF. I had no idea what I was doing, and it showed. It's hard to replicate the new player feel in a game you've been playing so long.
Thanks for all the fish!

im not really expecting it, im expecting it to be trash, and every time those expectations are met. i can just feel the functionality in every turn. we need to go to a desert place, we need the character to fight this boss here and that boss there quick lets make something up that fits that gameplay demand blueprint...

its like the cinema analogy. i dont go to the cinema expecting good food, i expect their foot to be absolutely shite, and it is, thats why i go to the cinema with my friends, dont eat anything and then go for a meal at a good restaurant after.

i suffer through the campaign in aprgs as fast as i can bare hating every moment of it and then listen to audio books of good stories while i autopilot grind endgame systems.

im an oldschool gamer. what was the story of r-type? how long did i spend standing in town reading mind numbing npc text spam in chaos engine? what was the plot of lemmings? they were games with good gameplay, they didnt stop me playing the good gameplay and ask me to read a load of nonsense in town to sell me a bad story someone just made up for the sake of ticking a box. maybe heres a paragraph of set up on a loading screen, ok now lets play the game. were in.

I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
on the same theme, i got done with the new diablo 4 expansion campaign last week, it was one of the worst things i have ever played. as much as i dislike poe campaign blizzard a different level. walk into a zone with 0 monsters, walk through it, literally no gameplay, get to the end listen to some trash tier cartoon story garbage, walk into the next zone 0 monsters walk around click on some petals dotted around the area, find another npc at the end, listen to some more trash, done with the area port town town talk to another npc.... wheres the gameplay? wtf is this?

a stunningly bad game. soon as you get to endgame its actually alright, theyve really improved it. still not amazing but it finally does a casual arpg fairly well in the endgame. sadly the campaign was a walking simulator tied to a greater demon explaining her daddy issues while everyone is really sad about how horrible the world of diablo is, queue the strings. i wanted aragon leading the charge into mordor or the wanton savagery of warhammer/conan the barbarian and instead it had the vibe of a teenagers really outraged political post on twitter. whoever is writing over there for blizzard needs to get back to doing japanimation highschool dramas.

at least poe absolutely nails the tone of grownup dark fantasy. i just think the actual mechanics of how they implement their story lines are fundamentally incompatible with the gameplay of the genre. the game exists for the gameplay, i think if you found a way of telling a story that was a lot more compatible with this genre of game youd probably have to tell a quite different sort of story. form follows function, if being good at the game means completely skipping the story then youve got the form of your story wrong, its not functional within the format of the game.

It's another shareholder thing. FF14 and all the Korean MMOs love doing it. The idea is to make the game's introduction impossible to fail to get the highest artificial playercount/shortterm sales.
