Even if I want to try the event, I'd be instantly dominated by all party players if I try to solo

I tried my hand at racing way back in the day in PoE1, had a few good runs and placements here and there, but I wasn't a 'Top' racer by any means but I put in enough effort to know that it wasn't really worth it and I don't see it being worth it now either.

Being a consistently top-placing racer takes so much practice you basically need to treat the game similarly as you would training for a sport in terms of rigor and time commitment. If you don't have this time, and you don't want to practice niche racing techniques, keyboard shortcuts and efficient UI interactions, memorize timings like "when this NPC says this word, it means you can start charging up X attack" or something similar - things that are so beyond the necessity of normal gameplay - don't even bother lol.

If maybe there was "runner up" prizes or "if you finish within x minutes" timeband rewards instead of a winner take all prize structure it could be fun for an everyday normal player to participate.

As it is now, it's basically an exhibition of: "Which of these 10 well known extremely-dedicated race-practicing players will be the luckiest in this run?".

Don't get me wrong, it's neat. But it does not stir any interest or make me consider participating, because I know there's just no way I'm going to be as fast as the people who've been training for months already, no luck is going to compensate for that, and I've already seen the game done quickly so it's not going to be anything new to watch either.

Big miss not having at least a set of prizes for all participants who finish the race.

Just toss out a mystery box at A4 completion. Good nuff.
