What was your reasoning for this?

What is the point of shoving mechanics meant to challenge and break the toughest and most well planned out HC characters into a SC league?
Like, it makes absolutely no sense. Is there an actual reason why you're making people push through mechanics that splat even the toughest Juggernauts with half-baked Surfcasters and Whisperers? I simply cannot wrap my head around this decision. Gating the ability to enjoy the return of something intended to be as lighthearted and build-diverse as Phrecia behind a set of campaign mechanics that were literally intended to beat the ever living shit out of the best HCSSF players in the world is an absolutely INSANE decision. Pretty good way to learn how to do those mechanics on HC.

" says who? Where was this announced? Was it in the same announcement that stated all the additional mods and things that you....skipped reading? First line January 20th announcement: right at the VERY TOP. "Embrace the bizarre when the Legacy of Phrecia returns to Path of Exile on January 29th (PST)! With 19 alternate Ascendancy classes, battle through areas altered by map modifiers, and face enraged bosses that push your builds and your skill to the limit." Underlined: push your builds and your skill to the limit Odd choice of words from GGG to say the event was intended to be lighthearted Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Jan 29, 2026, 10:41:00 PM

" Ah, sorry, I expected people to be able to read between the lines and understand what the essence of Phrecia was. It's literally an event built out of half-baked ideas that never made it into the game. They were very clear about the reason most of this never made it in back during the first go round. It was a collection of unbalanced, fun or interesting ideas that they never got to use, and they threw it out as a way for us to play around and experiment, which is exactly what we were able to do in the first Phrecia event. The Gauntlet is the antithesis to that idea. It is meant to tax the abilities of the most powerful builds from the base game that are thoroughly understood and tested by players and balanced over the course of over a decade by the devs. Then they add that same difficulty to slapped together nonsense like the goddamn Polytheist and the Harbinger, which are barely half thought out as is. Stating that they decided to throw Gauntlet difficulty on Phrecia up front doesn't explain WHY they thought that was a good idea. Saying up front that you're gonna put mustard in your new brand of wine doesn't make it make sense. Simply going off about them mentioning that they've intentionally ruined the creativity of the first Phrecia doesn't answer the question I've posed, which is WHY. According to Steam charts, 55% of the players who started in Phrecia 2.0 quit within 6 hours. It's brutally obvious to anyone with reasoning skills that the correct play for both the majority of the community and the bottom line of GGG was to let those who wanted the Gauntlet difficulty to be able to turn it on, and those who absolutely don't the ability to turn it the f@#$ off. " The solution is simple: don't play. This "event" is utter crap, but no one needs it really. |
|
" Dude, I loved the first Phrecia event, it was a blast! Maybe we can hope that they listen enough to simply put together a quick non-gauntlet option and allow us to migrate out. Losing 60% of their players in the first day must be enough of an indication that people just wanna chill and play different ascendancies. |

" lol....meanwhile.....Underlined: push your builds and your skill to the limit. Spend less time "reading between the lines" and spend more time.....reading the actual lines. This isn't Phrecia 1.0. It was specifically designed to be different. You were TOLD in no uncertain terms it was different. You don't need to "read between the lines" when the line is.....written right there Reading into something as being the exact opposite of what it was billed to be is called "lying". Or, at best, extreme ignorance. Also...Phrecia is NOT new anymore. It isn't a shiny new toy. We had 2 months of it already. People aren't quitting just because its harder. Most people had the decency to read how GGG described the event and knew what they were getting into. It just...isn't the same pull or staying power. Not to mention the base league it is built on is less popular than Kingsmarch was. Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Jan 30, 2026, 8:06:58 AM

I haven't played yet, but the gauntlet mods are very doable even if you are not the most godlike pro gamer. It is jump scare for the most part. The extra chaos damage is significant as well as the projectiles, ok, but doable. Adapt.
Act 4: log out when you get the debuff, take a deep breath log back in, no problem. Act 9: overlevel in the areas where syndicate can spawn or sth, become op. You invest 1-2 extra hours ok but it makes everything else much easier. In general: craft 2 amethyst rings in act 5 with life on it, since you picke alira you can afford to use them, big deal whoopdi The only thing that is really really hard is Hillock as a marauder, haha. Everythign else skill issue Thousands of players did it in hardcore. In sc you can even die and try again, where is the problem? Last edited by Strickl3r#3809 on Jan 30, 2026, 9:34:44 AM

Gauntlet is a top tier poe experience. This event is no different.
Good time for all the sctrade players to actually learn how to play the game. |
