Temple Has Put Into Perspective What Absolute CRAP Mapping Is

Whatever the endgame re-work is that's planned for .5 it better not get delayed again. Temple has been nothing short of fun (besides a lot of nonsense that exists for party play). It's also shown that mapping has always been a giant waste of time. Ritual is an absolute drag to do, cleansed zones NEVER drop fracturing orbs (Ive seen two this whole league), and the only other farm worth bothering with is abyss. Meanwhile, abyss has two types of monsters that can spawn that have no meaningful loot, and the only one that does have meaningful loot is again, an absolute drag to engage with. Doing juiced maps, even with 150% rarity and chaotic rarity applied on waystones still largely yields absolute trash loot. Temple has shown that the only meaningful rarity increase to actually make a difference is 1000% or more. If the game is going to be enjoyable, the floor needs to be brought way up, and the discrepancy between the two evened out a bunch, so that all forms of content can be meaningfully lucrative (this parts important, I have played way more this league because Temple exists and has allowed for long-term engagement with the economy despite inflation, nerfing everything down to the current floor that exists in regular mapping is NOT a good solution). Anyway, here's hoping end game will actually be fun in future in leagues outside of just temple.

I have deja vu reading this:) Back in poe1 GGG had "made a mistake" by their own words with Harvest league by allowing near-determenistic item crafting. Apparently players were having too good time. Then they dropped a hammer in 3.15, and it only went downhill since then. Chris later admitted 3.15 contained changes initially intended for Ruthless mode only.

So don't worry, GGG will take care about you and other players feeling just correct degree of miserable when it comes to loot lol. Temple was an oopsie and they are going to have revenge for it.
I don't really care about how rewarding content is, as long as it's fun. I will go 600 hours without a single tink in SSF and not care but as it stands, both Temple and maps are boring to play. It really puts a number on my mental health to watch my character run around in a square fighting re-used campaign enemies and some minibosses. Who on Earth thought this would be fun gameplay?

if there is no reward, where is the fun then???
On the one claw, no side content should be 100 times more rewarding than other content. Temple is clear outlier here and should be nerfed.

On the other, loot rewards are a token of progression, same as exp. GGG always strives to keep their players down on both, nerfing everything as long as players don't ragequit and uninstall. On league start they always aim to release overtuned enemies and undertuned loot, god forbid players getting real rewards.

If they make ALL content equally more rewarding and gut party MF, I'd heartily approve it and change my opinion about GGG. But thats not gonna happen.
Yeah, I don't think temple is "fun". It's just feels like the most rewarding thing for most folks.

The real moment you should be referring to is 0.3. Where everyone had fun crafting stuff.

Ideally the gameplay itself. I can put 10k hours into a game like Nioh 2, which has ARPG loot, and stop picking up loot in endgame because engaging with the combat alone is rewarding for me. I know these are different games but it's not a good sign when all of the fun is tied to progression imo.

On the one claw

I'm impressed you were able to type while shapeshifted.
0.4 SSF: Gemling Minions: https://poe.ninja/poe2/profile/DistributedAutomaton-5739/character/CrystalController

0.3 SSF: Evasion-only melee challenge character: https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/119e9
Mapping isn't crap. I farm expedition and made several hundred divines farming logbooks and runic splinters this league, so I should know.

The reality is that temple is broken and has given you unrealistic expectations of what the rest of the game should be. While people are farming temple and pulling 50 divines per run, everything is skyrocketing in cost because of it. This wasn't so bad back in 0.3.0, because abysses weren't currency printers, but we're experiencing it now and the only connection is the temple.

GGG has killed currency printer leagues in the past, and if they did somehow make it into the core game after their debut, they were gutted to be brought in line with the rest of the game. Make no mistake, temple is a currency printer league. It'll be a miracle if it survives to core, and it'll be nowhere as close to rewarding as it currently is.

I'm expecting a huge wave of people wailing about poverty league in the coming months.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

I agree that at a certain point mapping becomes very unfun.

The only reason im still playing this league is because I genuinely felt like as I built my temple, it got a little bit harder, and more rewarding in return. Its not hard anymore but it took me a while and a few upgrades to hit this point.

In PoE1, I can make the content harder, and harder, and harder, and can go quite a ways with this until the content is extremely difficult and requires an extremely powerful char.

PoE2 the difficulty ceiling is very low and so are rewards.

When will I be able to fill my maps with dangerous monsters shoulder to shoulder and hold on for dear life while I blast screen after screen and they just dont stop coming? This game needs more juice and more rip.
I don't appreciate how in PoE2, league 0.4, many players - including big streamers, abused the unintended holten mechanic and destroyed the game for so many others - all economy integrity was ruined and they live streamed it. And you did nothing.
